NVIDIA Launches Upgraded RTX Video Super Resolution: Improved Performance with Lower Power Consumption

NVIDIA has made a significant update to its RTX Video Super Resolution (VSR) technology, introducing an “Auto”quality option that can reduce GPU power consumption significantly.

Enhanced Control for NVIDIA RTX VSR: Lowering Power Consumption

The latest enhancements to NVIDIA’s RTX Video Super Resolution allow for a noticeable decrease in GPU resource use, leading to lower power consumption depending on user demands and workload. You can manage various parameters of the RTX VSR easily via the System tab in the NVIDIA App.

According to the NVIDIA FAQ section, the updated RTX VSR can save as much as 30% of power. This improvement is vital considering that the RTX graphics cards traditionally consume a substantial amount of power while upscaling low-resolution videos. For context, RTX VSR technology works by upscaling low-resolution video content in web browsers or media players like VLC to match the resolution of your monitor. This process can be demanding, with power usage fluctuating between 70W and 240W.
