Recently, a Finnish retailer has listed various NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs by Gigabyte, with prices ranging from €1229 to €1669.
Gigabyte Launches the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 AORUS Xtreme WaterForce GPU at Over $1700
The introduction of custom models for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 marks a notable development in the GPU market, especially considering the elevated prices set by Gigabyte. As one of NVIDIA’s significant partners, Gigabyte has unveiled several variants of the RTX 5080 GPU, now available through European retailers.
A Finnish retailer, ProShop, currently displays a range of Gigabyte RTX 5080 GPUs, showcasing various price points. Notably, the Founders Edition is listed at its Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of €1229, equivalent to approximately US$1258, inclusive of a 20% VAT. Excluding taxes, this estimation drops to around $1000.
The higher-end models, such as the Gaming OC, AERO OC, and AORUS series, are considerably pricier, often by at least €190. The RTX 5080 AORUS Xtreme WaterForce edition, specifically, is priced at €1669, or about US$1708, inclusive of VAT. When taxes are excluded, the price sits around $1423 USD, making it approximately $400 above the Founders Edition and nearing the cost of the RTX 4090.
Additionally, the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 AORUS Xtreme WaterForce WB edition is available for €1639, targeting enthusiasts interested in custom liquid cooling setups. Buyers should note that most of these GPUs are Factory Overclocked (OC) editions, typically delivering higher boost clock speeds than standard models. The NVIDIA Founders Edition boasts a boost clock of 2617 MHz, meaning customized versions could potentially exceed 2700 MHz.
Reflecting on the prior launch of the RTX 4080, it’s essential to recognize the criticisms surrounding its pricing strategy, as it debuted at $1200—a move seen as unfavorable in the Ada generation. NVIDIA addressed this by releasing a refreshed RTX 4080 Super at a more appealing $1000 price point. With select RTX 5080 models exceeding $1400, consumers might find value considerations troubling, given that enhancements in clock speeds and cooling won’t yield a proportionate increase in performance over the Founders Edition.
With the official launch date approaching, there remains a possibility that prices may adjust downward for some editions, yet it’s uncertain if they will maintain their current listings. The pricing strategies for NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 5090 and further RTX 5080 custom editions from other manufacturers will play a crucial role in revealing the extent of these price fluctuations.
