NVIDIA DLSS 4 Introduces “High Performance” Mode: Achieve Higher FPS with Minimal Image Quality Impact Compared to Performance Mode

Exploring NVIDIA’s Custom DLSS 4 High Performance Mode

NVIDIA has introduced an intriguing custom mode for its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) 4 technology, labeled “High Performance.”This mode effectively bridges the gap between the existing Performance and Ultra Performance modes, offering enhanced image quality comparable to the latter while significantly boosting gaming performance.

Impact on Popular Games

A recent analysis by MxBenchmarkPC showcases the capabilities of this mode through a side-by-side comparison featuring popular titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Oblivion Remastered, STALKER 2, The Witcher 3 Next-Gen, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Conducted on an RTX 4070 at a 1080p resolution, this comparison highlights how users can activate the “High Performance”mode via the NVIDIA App by setting the Override Super Resolution to 42% input resolution.

This custom mode typically delivers image quality on par with the standard Performance mode, yet it excels in terms of gaming performance for most of the tested titles. In certain instances, such as with The Witcher 3 Next-Gen, the image quality surpasses that of the Ultra Performance mode, revealing the impressive innovations NVIDIA has implemented.

Enhanced User Control with the NVIDIA App

With the recent launch of the NVIDIA App earlier this year, gamers can now fine-tune the NVIDIA DLSS 4 Super Resolution settings, adjusting various input resolutions to optimize the upscaling experience. In addition to the newly introduced “High Performance”mode, users can also access the Ultra Quality mode. Although this functionality was added in earlier updates, it has only recently become fully operational, allowing players to experience performance levels that surpass Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA) with minimal compromise in visual fidelity.

Revolutionary Features of NVIDIA DLSS 4

The official debut of NVIDIA DLSS 4 coincided with the launch of the RTX 50 series GPUs, which brought forth a range of advanced features, including a new Transformer model for superior image clarity compared to its predecessor, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. Additionally, the introduction of Multi Frame Generation further enhances performance across compatible games designed for the latest RTX GPUs.

For an in-depth look at these developments and the full spectrum of features offered by DLSS 4, more information is available here.
