NVIDIA Develops Export-Compliant GeForce RTX 5090 DD for China with Blackwell GB202-240 GPU

NVIDIA is gearing up to unveil the GeForce RTX 5090 DD, which will serve as its next flagship graphics card specifically for the Chinese market. This strategic move is in response to evolving export regulations.

Initially launched in January, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 D was tailored to align with export compliance, featuring a scaled-back version of the core specifications. Despite this, it maintained the same impressive gaming capabilities as the standard RTX 5090, boasting 21, 760 cores and 32 GB of GDDR7 memory.

However, shortly after its rollout, NVIDIA faced complications due to tightening restrictions imposed by the U. S.government, resulting in the company instructing its add-in board (AIB) partners to halt sales and production of the RTX 5090 D. Around this time, rumors surfaced about an upcoming model that would be further optimized for the Chinese market, featuring reduced specifications.

The anticipated graphics card, named the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 DD, is expected to carry some distinctive attributes. According to credible leaker MEGAsizeGPU, this card will be equipped with the GB202-240 GPU variant, compared to the GB202-250 that powers the RTX 5090 D and the GB202-300 found in the standard RTX 5090. Notably, it will also showcase a fresh PCB design, denoted as the PG145 WeU 40, reflecting modifications in the VRAM and GPU configuration.

Reports suggest that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 DD will be configured with 14, 080 CUDA cores and possess 24 GB of GDDR7 memory on a 384-bit interface. This marks a reduction of 35% in core count and 25% in VRAM compared to its predecessor. As a result of these adjustments, the total board power (TBP) is also expected to decrease, while performance in gaming contexts could see an estimated drop between 20% to 30%—a significant consideration for enthusiasts.

Historically, NVIDIA has priced its China-exclusive variants similarly to their international counterparts. However, this situation may change, with projections placing the price of the RTX 5090 DD around $1, 500; a notable reduction from the standard RTX 5090’s MSRP of $1, 999. While precise launch dates remain unspecified, indications suggest that the new card will debut in the coming weeks.
