NVIDIA’s RTX 3060 Dominates in Latest Steam Hardware Survey, Intel CPUs Remain Top Choice
Steam remains the top choice for PC gamers, boasting a monthly user base of 150 million and a peak concurrent player count of 34 million according to the latest statistics. As the largest gaming platform, it offers the widest selection of games under one platform. Every month, Steam conducts a hardware survey that attracts millions of participants, providing valuable insights into the hardware and platforms preferred by gamers.

NVIDIA and Intel have long been the dominant players on Steam, and this remains true as of March 2024. The most recent statistics show that 78% of the playerbase is using an NVIDIA GPU, followed by 14.64% with AMD GPUs and 7.24% with Intel GPUs (primarily iGPUs). The majority (93.76%) of gamers now have a DX12-compliant GPU, and NVIDIA continues to hold the top spot in terms of popularity among products.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, released in 2021, continues to dominate the charts with a market share of 6.92%. Its popularity has only increased since its initial release, with multiple variants being introduced. Last month, it experienced the largest share increase of +0.75%, possibly due to its widespread availability in the second-hand market and discounted prices worldwide.
Despite the release of the newer RTX 4060 GPUs, the RTX 3060 is still being produced due to its consistent demand. Following closely behind is the RTX 2060 (4.10%), the second most sought-after GPU, followed by the GTX 1650 (4.07%). The production of NVIDIA’s GeForce 16 series was discontinued last month.

The GeForce RTX 4060 has quickly become the preferred option among the GeForce RTX 40 “Ada”GPUs, capturing a 2.59% market share in less than a year since its release. This GPU experienced the second-largest increase in market share at 0.60%. Surprisingly, the more expensive GeForce RTX 4070 has a competitive market share of 2.50%. It is worth noting that the flagship GeForce RTX 4090 continues to hold a higher level of popularity compared to the RTX 4080.
At present, the sole AMD Radeon GPU listed is the RX 7900 XTX, which holds a share of 0.34%. In terms of the share, the AMD Radeon Graphics (iGPUs) make up approximately 1.98%.

Shifting the focus to CPUs, Intel still holds the majority of the market share at 68.07%. However, AMD has quickly gained ground with its powerful Ryzen lineup and now holds a significant 31.93% share. In terms of popularity, 6-core processors make up the largest share at 35.69%, followed by 8-core processors at 19.49%. Despite their age, quad-core processors (or older PCs) are still widely used among gamers, accounting for 19.30% of systems, nearly matching the number of 8-core systems out there.
In general, this offers a comprehensive view of the gaming market and identifies the top choices for PC gaming among the big three.
According to VideoCardz, the ownership of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is steadily increasing among Steam users, with the RTX 4060 also gaining popularity.
