NVIDIA Clarifies VPA Program Status: Still Active for RTX 50 GPU Purchases

Recently, a Reddit conversation sparked concern among gamers when a user claimed that NVIDIA had discontinued its Verified Priority Access (VPA) program. This assertion stemmed from a misunderstanding conveyed by an NVIDIA support representative.

The issue began when a Reddit user shared a screenshot revealing their interaction with NVIDIA customer support. The user inquired about the availability of the VPA program, to which the support employee incorrectly stated that it had been terminated.

NVIDIA responded to the Reddit thread, clearing up the confusion and confirming that the VPA program is still active. The support representative apparently misinformed the user, leading to the deletion of the original thread.

For those unfamiliar with the VPA, it’s a program exclusively available to NVIDIA account holders, allowing them to purchase select RTX 50 series GPUs, excluding the RTX 5070 Ti, at Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP).Specifically, eligible users can acquire the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070 Founders Edition GPUs through this initiative.

This program was developed to address the ongoing issues of inflated prices and limited GPU availability. However, it’s important to note that participation does not guarantee a GPU at the MSRP, as there are specific eligibility criteria that applicants must meet. Notably, only Founders Edition models of the mentioned cards are offered, and applicants must reside in the United States.

Additionally, users must have created their NVIDIA account by January 30, 2025, to qualify for the program—allowing those who registered before the launch of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 models to participate. Using an eligibility-checking algorithm, the VPA program determines which applicants will receive an invitation via email to purchase the GPUs at MSRP from NVIDIA’s official store.
