NVIDIA’s 94% Market Share Solidifies Its Lead as the Discrete GPU Market Leader in Q2 2025
My earlier projections during a previous Jon Peddie Research (JPR) report have proven accurate; NVIDIA continues to assert its dominance in the discrete GPU sector. The latest Q2 2025 discrete GPU market analysis from JPR indicates a 27% increase in total shipments compared to the previous quarter, while GPU boards for data centers experienced a rise of 4.7%.

The report forecasts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -5.4% for AIBs from 2024 to 2028, predicting a total installed base of 163 million discrete GPUs. Over the next five years, it is anticipated that 87% of desktop PCs will be equipped with discrete graphics cards. This trend underscores the continued vitality of the desktop GPU market, driven by growing demand for high-performance graphics, especially in gaming, professional applications, and artificial intelligence.

In Q2 2025, NVIDIA sustained its spectacular trajectory with a remarkable 94% market share, reflecting a growth of 2.1% from the previous quarter. In stark contrast, AMD and Intel together hold a 6% and 0% market share, down 2.1% and unchanged, respectively.
NVIDIA’s recent earnings call further highlighted the strong performance of the GeForce RTX 50 series, which is seeing robust sales. This trend is not unexpected, as the gaming sector has recently reported its highest revenue figures and with the holiday season on the horizon, anticipations for soaring sales are high.

JPR also remarked that recent tariffs imposed by the U. S.have led to a state of anxiety in the GPU market, where prices for high-end graphics cards have surged while supplies have dwindled. Users can still find entry and mid-tier GPUs at more accessible prices; however, fluctuations in tariffs across various regions are prompting consumers to invest in new GPUs while they remain reasonably priced.
- The attach rate for AIBs in desktop PCs surged to 154%, up by 2.3% from the last quarter.
- The desktop CPU market saw a decline of 4.4% year-over-year, although it experienced a 21.6% increase quarter-over-quarter.
Looking ahead, both NVIDIA and AMD do not plan any significant GPU launches in the near term. Their respective RTX 50 “Blackwell”and Radeon RX 9000 “RDNA 4″series are nearing completion, with Intel potentially unveiling a larger Battlemage option. However, major product launches are not expected until next year.
