“NO WAY THIS IS SERIOUS” — Internet Reacts to JoJo Siwa’s 2025 Grammy Submission for Best New Artist and “Karma”

JoJo Siwa has officially submitted her song Karma for nomination in the Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video categories at the 2025 Grammy Awards. Additionally, she has put herself forward for the Best New Artist category.

Released on April 5, 2024, as the lead single from her debut EP Guilty Pleasure, Siwa’s track Karma faced harsh criticism. It has accumulated the highest number of dislikes on YouTube for a female artist’s music video, eclipsing records held by notable artists such as Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry.

Despite the backlash surrounding the reception of Karma, JoJo Siwa’s decision to submit it for various Grammy categories has sparked amusement across the internet. One user commented:

“STOP NO WAY THIS IS SERIOUS.”

“Karma not even record of the weekend,”remarked another fan jibed.

“Me trying to apply to Harvard with 2.0,”a netizen joked.

“I think she meant to submit for worst new artist,”a user added.

Many continued to tease Siwa regarding her Grammy submissions, with numerous fans humorously questioning her confidence.

“She wishes lmao,”one person commented.

“So unserious,”another fan quipped.

“I mean a girl can dream,”an individual suggested.

Additional reactions included:

“She set herself up bye,”a user commented.

“You’re actually joking,”another fan chimed in.

Besides JoJo Siwa, other artists such as Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Megan Moroney are also contenders for the Best New Artist category in the 2025 Grammys.

In July 2024, JoJo Siwa’s Karma surpassed others to become the most disliked music video on YouTube by a female artist. However, the 21-year-old pop star seemed unfazed by the negative feedback, celebrating the landmark with her fans on TikTok.

In her TikTok video, Siwa humorously shared a list of the least-loved videos from female artists this year. The data, sourced from an online dislike viewer website, included notable names like Ariana Grande, whose track Yes, And? garnered 290,000 dislikes, and Katy Perry, with 330,000 dislikes for Woman’s World, ranking third. Siwa noted Taylor Swift, whose song Fortnight received 350,000 dislikes since May. Ultimately, Siwa celebrated her own Karma topping the list with a staggering 3.1 million dislikes.

“Your No. 1 first place overall goes to… Karma, JoJo Siwa, with an astonishing, record-breaking 3.1 million dislikes! I am the only person that can say I beat Taylor Swift on a list of something. I’ll take it.”

In her TikTok caption, Siwa wrote:

“WHAT A DAY TO CELEBRATE. KARMA BROKE A RECORD. 900% MORE THAN 2ND PLACE. A WIN IS A WIN.”

Karma has attracted mixed reactions online since its launch in April, with a predominant negative reception, leading to a slew of memes poking fun at its perceived over-the-top style.

In an interview with TMZ back in April, JoJo Siwa noted that Karma signals the dawn of a new musical chapter for her, stating:

“I think I just want to make it more clear that gay pop is a genre. I am not the inventor of gay pop, for sure not. But I do want to be a piece of making it bigger than it already is. I want to bring more attention to it.”

As of now, Siwa’s Karma has accumulated 49 million views on YouTube.
