A significant reason for Jensen’s current visit involves securing additional Blackwell chip wafers. As reported earlier, NVIDIA is experiencing overwhelming demand for its Blackwell product range, which encompasses chips and rack-scale configurations. To address this demand surge, NVIDIA has sought TSMC’s support in increasing chip production capacity. Furthermore, NVIDIA is poised to become a primary customer in TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm production process, anticipating to claim around 30% of the overall output, indicating the robust momentum of the AI sector.

On first glance, the statement “No TSMC, no NVIDIA”may seem overly dramatic. However, a closer examination of the supply chain reveals TSMC’s centrality to NVIDIA’s AI innovations, from essential semiconductor supplies to advanced packaging solutions like CoWoS. Notably, NVIDIA once lagged in adopting advanced chip technologies but is now fervently pursuing cutting-edge chips, such as the A16, suggesting that its reliance on TSMC will intensify.
Given NVIDIA’s standing as a leader in the AI field, maintaining a close partnership with TSMC is crucial. Jensen’s ongoing visits to Taiwan indicate that the collaboration between NVIDIA and TSMC is set to strengthen, heralding significant advancements in their joint endeavors.
