Touted as one of Hollywood’s most charming couples, Tom Holland and Zendaya embody an irresistible dynamic both on and off the screen. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Zendaya brings to life the character Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, a fresh iteration of the beloved comic book heroine traditionally depicted as a white character with red hair. But the burning question on fans’ minds is whether Zendaya will reprise her role in the anticipated Spider-Man 4.
The Uncertainty Surrounding Zendaya’s Return in ‘Spider-Man 4’
Amidst speculation, it’s known that Zendaya has already glimpsed the script for the new installment. Tom Holland revealed during an interview that they read it together and were filled with excitement about its potential: “We were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’ However, there are a few aspects we need to finalize before proceeding, but it’s thrilling, ” he shared.
Yet the conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home casts a shadow of doubt on her return. The film introduced a multiverse plot twist where Holland’s Peter Parker was erased from the memories of everyone who knew him, including MJ. This heart-wrenching moment left fans pondering: will there be a way to reverse the spell in the upcoming film?
Rumors have started circulating that both Zendaya and Jacob Batalon’s character, Ned Leeds, may not appear in Spider-Man 4. Reliable leaker DanielRPK suggested that director Destin Daniel Cretton aims to take the narrative in a new direction, potentially introducing lesser-known characters from the Spider-Man lore. Notable figures such as Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, J. Jonah Jameson, or even Miles Morales might make their debut, leaving fans curious about what lies ahead.
A Call for New Faces in the Spider-Man Franchise
Responses to the rumors on X (formerly Twitter) have been quite mixed. While some fans express a desire for a different portrayal of MJ, with one user craving a “real MJ” while allowing Ned to persist, others are baffled by the notion that Zendaya—who has established herself as the MCU’s definitive MJ—would be replaced. One suggestion even playfully proposed dyeing Zendaya’s hair to align with traditional depictions, showcasing how much fans value her role.
All the while, other fans are eager to see characters like Daredevil and Punisher integrated into the storyline, seeking a return to Spider-Man’s street-level roots. With Daredevil’s recent cameo in No Way Home and his upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, the crossover potential is certainly promising.
Additionally, introducing Black Cat as a new love interest has sparked interest among fans. Though Felicity Jones portrayed her in the ill-fated The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the character has yet to fully blossom within the cinematic universe. If Zendaya’s MJ is indeed sidelined, many suggest that Black Cat could provide fresh opportunities for Spider-Man’s romantic arc.
For now, all we can do is wait and see how Marvel’s plans unfold. As a fan myself, I sincerely hope for more appearances from Zendaya and the character MJ. After all, she and Tom Holland share a lovely chemistry that deserves to be explored further before they potentially embark on the journey of marriage!
