NJZ Parents Claim Bang Si Hyuk Tried to Cancel Group’s ComplexCon Performance Through Organizers

The parents of the K-pop group NJZ (previously known as NewJeans) have publicly accused Bang Si-hyuk, chairman of HYBE, of attempting to undermine the group’s upcoming performance at ComplexCon Hong Kong.

In a statement posted on their official Instagram account, parents of the NJZ members alleged that Bang contacted the event’s organizers in the United States, advocating for the cancellation of the group’s performance in Hong Kong. The statement disclosed, “We were informed by a ComplexCon official involved in the concert preparations that Chairman Bang personally reached out to American representatives to urge them to cancel NJZ’s concert.”They further asserted, “HYBE continues to prioritize individuals as mere profit-making entities rather than supporting them.”

The allegations arise amidst a turbulent legal situation between NJZ and its former agency, ADOR, which is a subsidiary of HYBE. The group announced its exit from ADOR in November 2024, citing breaches of contract, leading to heightened tensions since NJZ’s rebranding and their pursuit of independent projects.

Despite these serious accusations against Bang Si-hyuk, NJZ is set to go ahead with their performance at ComplexCon Hong Kong, which marks their first significant international appearance since separating from ADOR. The festival is scheduled to take place from March 21 to 23 at AsiaWorld-Expo.

Bang Si-hyuk’s Response to the Allegations

As of now, Bang Si-hyuk has not publicly addressed these allegations directly. However, ADOR has released a statement refuting any claims of attempts to sabotage NJZ’s performance. They indicated that they had reached out to Bang Si-hyuk, who also denied making any calls to the ComplexCon organizers. Notably, ADOR emphasized their request for the event to use the name “NewJeans” and insisted on conducting the concert under their management, citing provisions in the exclusive contract with NJZ.
