Nintendo Switch 2’s ‘C’ Button: New Insights Spark More Mystery After Reveal

Overview

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 announcement revealed a new button that adds a layer of intrigue compared to its predecessor.
  • Despite initial leaks suggesting this button would be labeled “C,”it actually appears featureless, leaving its purpose uncertain.
  • Further details regarding this enigmatic button are anticipated in April 2024 during a dedicated Nintendo Direct presentation and hands-on preview events.

The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 has indeed introduced a new button, initially rumored to be marked with a “C.”This unexpected twist has sparked rampant speculation within the gaming community, making the button’s role more mysterious than ever.

Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch 2 with a two-and-a-half-minute trailer on January 16. The new console boasts a more substantial and rounded design, exuding a modern aesthetic that contrasts its predecessor. While many fans were not entirely surprised by the design—given the numerous leaks leading up to the announcement—confirming the addition of a new button below the Home button on the right Joy-Con has reignited excitement.

The January 16 trailer verified the existence of this extra button. While earlier leaks accurately depicted its shape and placement, its appearance defied expectations; the square button lacks any discernible markings, appearing almost completely smooth.

Accurate Leak on the Absence of ‘C’ on New Button

The most precise forecast regarding the button’s appearance came from OnLeaks, who shared detailed 360-degree renders of the Switch 2 just days before its official debut. However, even this reputable leaker could not provide insights into the button’s intended use.

The button’s unassuming design does little to reveal its intended purpose, yet some clues may have been unearthed. A dataminer analyzing the latest Switch operating system suggested that the new button might facilitate chat functions. This conclusion stemmed from the discovery of references to a feature called “Campus”within Nintendo’s recent firmware, which is theorized to encompass both voice and group chat functionalities for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. This has led to speculation that the button, previously associated with the “C”designation, actually relates to chat functionalities.

Fans can expect to learn more about this mysterious button by April 2025, when a Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Switch 2 is slated for April 2. This will be followed by a series of global hands-on preview events, allowing enthusiasts to experience the new console firsthand before its anticipated release, expected in early June 2025.
