Overview of Nintendo Switch 2 Trailer Performance
- The Nintendo Switch 2 trailer is exceeding the YouTube view count of the 2020 PS5 reveal within its initial days.
- Despite this, it trails behind Nintendo’s teaser for the original Switch from 2016.
The reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 has ignited excitement among gamers, with its trailer rapidly gaining traction on YouTube. This surge in views reflects a strong anticipation for Nintendo’s next-generation console.
After extensive rumors, leaks, and speculative discussions, Nintendo officially announced the Switch 2 on January 16 with an engaging two-minute video. This presentation not only showcased the new console but also hinted at the upcoming release of another Mario Kart title.
As of three days post-release, the Switch 2 trailer has reached an impressive 18.78 million views and over a million likes on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel. In comparison, the PS5 announcement garnered similar engagement but achieved approximately 18.14 million views in the same timeframe following its launch in June 2020. By early 2025, Sony’s PS5 reveal has accumulated 44 million views and 1.6 million likes, indicating that the Switch 2 trailer is likely to surpass the PS5 in YouTube engagement in the near future.

Switch 2 Reveal Tracks Behind Original Switch Trailer
Although the Switch 2 trailer’s early engagement outshines that of the PS5’s reveal, it still falls short compared to the original Switch announcement, which garnered an impressive 19.5 million views within just two days of its release in October 2016. Notably, that video was eventually removed from the platform, as reported by VGC.
The popularity of the Switch 2 reveal underscores the immense excitement surrounding Nintendo’s latest innovation. Recent analyses suggest Nintendo anticipates a significant demand, planning to produce around 20 million units of the Switch 2 during its inaugural year. This figure represents a 25% increase over the original Switch launch, which experienced notable supply shortages during its early days and again due to the global pandemic in 2020.
In an effort to engage fans, Nintendo has organized preview events set for April, May, and early June 2025, providing the public with a chance to experience the new console hands-on. Leading up to these events, a Nintendo Direct presentation focused exclusively on the Switch 2 will take place on April 2. This broadcast is expected to deliver key details about the console, such as its release date, pricing, and a curated list of launch titles. Speculation suggests that the Switch 2 may be priced around $449, which would represent a 50% increase compared to its predecessor’s original U.S. launch price.
