Nintendo Switch 2: Sales Projections Amidst Tariff Concerns
DFC Intelligence has released a comprehensive report following the full unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, illuminating its expected sales trajectory. Initially, the firm forecasted the sale of 17 million units by the end of 2025. However, concerns surrounding rising tariffs have prompted a revision of this projection, now estimating 15 million units sold by year-end 2025. Notably, this sales figure would mark the Nintendo Switch 2 as the fastest-selling console in history, surpassing the record set by its predecessor, the Nintendo Switch, as well as iconic devices like the Nintendo Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 4, all of which took over a year to achieve such sales figures.
Long-term Potential and Third-Party Support
DFC Intelligence expresses a strong belief in the long-term sales potential of Nintendo’s new console, suggesting it could secure a larger market share compared to the original Switch. A key factor contributing to this confidence is the impressive lineup of third-party support showcased during its reveal. Notable titles such as Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, HITMAN: World of Assassination, Project 007, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Hogwarts Legacy, Borderlands 4, and Civilization VII indicate that major publishers are optimistic about the Nintendo Switch 2.

Competitive Landscape and Consumer Sentiment
DFC Intelligence also posits that the Nintendo Switch 2 will better contend with Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox consoles, altering the competitive landscape of the gaming market. Their surveys indicate that 61% of surveyed console gamers harbor positive sentiments towards the new console. Within this group, 20% express excitement as early adopters, while 41% feel optimistic yet cautious about making a purchase.
Insights from PC Gamers
Interestingly, the surveys also revealed preferences among hardcore PC gamers. A significant portion indicated that they favor the unique offerings of the Switch over traditional consoles. Specifically, 44% of respondents own a Switch, compared to 23% who own a PlayStation 5 and 17% who possess an Xbox Series console.
Market Challenges Ahead
In conclusion, DFC Intelligence asserts that the Nintendo Switch 2 possesses the potential to significantly reshape the gaming industry. However, the looming tariff concerns present a challenge; if Nintendo finds it necessary to increase the console’s price, many potential buyers may choose to postpone their purchases. This could lead to a reduction in manufacturing plans by Nintendo, impacting the overall market dynamics.
