Overview
- An intriguing image claiming to show the Nintendo Switch 2 dock has appeared online.
- This photo originates from NextHandheld, a source known for previously leaking accurate images relating to the Switch 2.
- Continuing their trend, NextHandheld has integrated an AI-generated background featuring polar bears into their latest share.
Recently, an alleged image of the Nintendo Switch 2 dock made waves on the internet, peculiarly portraying the device amidst a snowy scene populated by polar bears. This latest leak comes from NextHandheld, a reputable leaker who has already circulated several purported visuals of Nintendo’s anticipated successor to the original Switch.
NextHandheld, active on Reddit and Twitter, has garnered attention since late December 2024 by sharing seemingly authentic images of the Switch 2, which align with several additional leaks and speculation surrounding the upcoming console.
On January 12, NextHandheld took to Twitter to unveil a new photo of the Switch 2 dock. In this peculiar image, the dock is shown surrounded by snow, with polar bears playfully featured in the backdrop. The leaker indicated that the striking scenery was generated using AI software to alter the background, a technique previously utilized in their earlier Switch 2 revelations as well. This method seemingly serves to obscure the actual locations from which these images emanate, thereby decreasing the chances of Nintendo tracing the leaks back to their source.
Alignment with Existing Rumors
The design showcased in this latest image corresponds with previous rumors surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 dock. Specifically, it’s said to exhibit a more rounded appearance compared to its predecessor, a characteristic readily noticeable in NextHandheld’s shared photo. Additionally, the dock features an updated Switch logo that incorporates the numeral two, corroborating NextHandheld’s earlier assertion that the upcoming system will be known as the Nintendo Switch 2.
Uncertain Dimensions of the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
Due to the AI-modified background, the image lacks any scale references, leaving the actual size of the dock ambiguous. However, various leaks suggest that the Switch 2 itself will have a noticeably larger profile than prior models, boasting dimensions of 270 x 116 x 14mm. This would make it bulkier than even the Switc OLED Model, which has been the largest handheld console introduced by Nintendo. Intriguingly, the size of the dock might not be proportionally larger, potentially allowing for more of the screen to extend above the dock’s edge when the device is docked, in contrast to the original model.
Nintendo has committed to formally unveiling the Switch 2 during its fiscal year 2024, concluding on March 31. Reports indicate that production of the console has commenced as early as Q4 2024, a claim bolstered by the recent surge of leaks associated with the Switch 2 hardware. Consequently, it’s plausible that the device could launch as early as Q2 2025 or thereafter.
