Nintendo Implements Price Increases on Consoles and Accessories in the U. S.

Last week, Nintendo revealed plans to adjust pricing for its hardware and accessories in the United States. While the highly anticipated Switch 2 remains untouched by these hikes, older models like the original Nintendo Switch and its lighter variant have seen significant increases in cost.

New Pricing for Nintendo Switch Models

Effective immediately, the pricing changes for the original Nintendo Switch have shifted from $300 to $340. The Nintendo Switch Lite has increased from $200 to $230, and the OLED version will now cost $400, up from $350. Consequently, U. S.consumers can expect a price hike of up to 15% across these last-generation consoles. Notably, this adjustment positions the Switch 2—a forthcoming product—just $50 more than the Switch OLED.

Accessory Price Adjustments

In addition to console price changes, several accessories have also seen marked increases. Joy-Con controllers now retail for $90, while the Switch Pro Controller is priced at $80—both rising by $10. The latest Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is now available for $90 as well, with the Joy-Con 2s priced at $100.

Additional peripherals, including various controllers, charging stands, wrist straps, amiibos, and even the quirky ‘Nintendo Alarmo’ clock, have experienced price hikes ranging from $1 to $5.

Changes Now Live and Market Response

The updated prices are currently reflected on the official Nintendo online store, with other retailers expected to implement similar changes shortly.

Nintendo cited “market conditions”as the rationale behind this pricing adjustment in their original announcement. However, they did not elaborate on specific factors driving the change.

Future Pricing Projections

While Nintendo has maintained the launch price of the Switch 2 at $449, they have indicated that this may not be permanent. The company also suggested that adjustments could affect prices for Nintendo Switch 2 titles and Nintendo Switch Online memberships in the future, leaving some uncertainty in the market.

As the gaming landscape evolves, these price adjustments could reflect broader trends within the industry, promising to spark discussions among avid Nintendo fans and potential buyers.
