Nintendo’s Switch 2 Demand Surpasses Expectations

In a recent investor meeting, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, highlighted the overwhelming demand for the newly launched Switch 2 console. The interest has significantly surpassed Nintendo’s internal forecasts, resulting in stock shortages across many retailers. Furukawa issued an apology for the inconvenience faced by customers struggling to find the console. Currently, in many countries, the demand for Switch 2 exceeds the supply, and we are unable to meet it. We understand that some shareholders have also been unable to obtain it. We started accepting lottery sales at My Nintendo Store in April. The response far exceeded our expectations, and I announced in my name on X that there were 2.2 million applicants, along with an apology.

Following the initial lottery sales, Nintendo has conducted four rounds of selections. Unfortunately, not all applicants were successful in obtaining a console. Looking ahead, a fifth lottery is scheduled to commence in July, alongside growing participation from various retailers in lottery-style sales to increase accessibility.

Efforts to Increase Production

Amid these challenges, Nintendo is actively enhancing its production capabilities to fulfill the high demand. Furukawa emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering as many units as possible to alleviate consumer frustration caused by the unexpected surge in interest.

Remarkable Sales Performance

The Nintendo Switch 2 has had an impressive launch, selling over 3.5 million units within the first four days, effectively doubling the sales rate of its predecessor during the same period. This robust performance has led DFC Intelligence to revise its sales forecast for the 2025 fiscal year, increasing the estimate from 15 to 16 million units. Notably, this projection accounts for supply limitations; without constraints, DFC Intelligence believes the sales figure could potentially reach 20 million units.

As the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to capture consumer interest, both the company and shareholders remain hopeful for improved stock availability in the future.
