Finding Purgatory Gates: Chapter Locations
This guide details all Purgatory gates within Ninja Gaiden 4, organized by chapter for easier navigation.
Chapter 01: Bloodsoaked Tokyo

Once you’ve obtained the Caddis Wire, put it to use immediately. After hooking from platform to platform, take a moment to explore the trucks on your left. Following the path behind them will lead you to the top of a building where you can find the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 02: Haunted District

Progressing through the level, you will encounter sentry drones and flying foes—indications that you’re close to a Purgatory gate. After dispatching the enemies, you can either use the Caddis Wire to ascend the wall or slide behind the neon sign. Continue down the path and beyond the dump trucks on your left to discover the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 03: Phantom Pleasure Quarter

After wiping out the initial wave of enemies, perform a butterfly jump into the first open area. Rather than advancing forward, turn back and proceed down a corridor leading to the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 04: Pilgrim’s Windswept Path

After defeating the initial enemies, you will face a butterfly wall jump. Upon reaching the top, turn around to enter the corridor that leads to the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 05: Raging Valley

Situated deep within the level, this Purgatory gate can easily be overlooked. After defeating the enemies at the crash site, use the Caddis Wire for platforming across the canyon. Climbing mountain ledges, you will face two foes guarding an opening for a butterfly wall jump. However, instead of jumping up, turn around to spot a path leading to the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 06: Guiding Winds

After interacting with the Umi terminal and riding the wind on the Dragonfly Glider, glide onto wooden platforms. Before moving forward, divert to the right to find a Caddis Wire prompt, allowing you to swing across and access the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 07: Altar of the Mountain God

This chapter, predominantly a boss fight, offers a straightforward route to the Purgatory gate. After brief platforming, locate the Umi terminal and Tyran raven. Instead of heading to the boss, take the stairs on the right down to discover the Purgatory gate, alongside a hidden Gourdy.
Chapter 08: Drowned District

Upon acquiring the Pond Strider, navigate through underground waters to an open area with two shark demons summoning enemies. Defeat them to advance, then swiftly move left after opening the gate. Perform a butterfly wall jump to continue your Pond Strider journey until you find the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 09: Realm of the Silent Dead

In the underworld, explore several open areas using your Pond Strider. Head down the left side of the first area until reaching a cave, and continue through it to find the elusive Purgatory gate.
Chapter 10: Infiltration

The Purgatory gate in Chapter 10 is accessible right from the first room, but be prepared to battle several enemies first. Once the area is cleared, find Tyran’s raven, and directly behind him, a path leads to the Purgatory gate. Follow the hallway down and descend the stairs to access it.
Chapter 11: Infiltration

Utilizing rail grinding skills is pivotal here. After navigating a busy traffic section, reach a platform marked “E4.”Caddis Wire up the wall and take another rail. Although the main path continues left, instead, grind on the right rail while evading an incoming train, and then jump back to the left rail to access the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 12: Dragon’s Maw

This Purgatory gate is located deep within a lengthy chapter. After some rail grinding, you’ll confront enemies near a gate marked “08.”Eliminate them, then notice a path to your left. Complete a Caddis Wire maneuver to navigate this tricky portion, ultimately leading to a hidden area with the Purgatory gate waiting for you.
Chapter 13: Clash of Convictions

At the beginning of this chapter, turn back and head down the hallway, which will lead you to a staircase. Turn left at the bottom, and tackle a series of platforming challenges that include Caddis Wires, wall runs, and rail grinding. Conclusively, you’ll find yourself grinding into a jump that leads directly to the Purgatory gate. Please note that no Purgatory gate exists in Chapter 14.
Chapter 15: Trapped Gate

In this chapter, Ryu embarks on a familiar quest to discover Purgatory gates. After transitioning between the underworld and a disco setting, eliminate enemies, proceed through the door, and move forward until you encounter the portal that leads back to the underworld. Instead of jumping in right away, navigate to the left platform and wall jump your way to the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 16: Downpour

After defeating some initial foes, traverse a corridor until you spot a large doll head—a significant visual cue. Use it to navigate right past a Murasma shop, where you’ll uncover a concealed corridor that leads to wall runs and ultimately to the coveted Purgatory gate.
Chapter 17: Howling Ravine

Surprisingly, the location of the Purgatory gate in this chapter is identical to that of Chapter seven. Commencing on the wooden platform with the shop, move right and ascend the stairs leading to the Purgatory gate.
Chapter 18: Darkness Reborn

While progressing through Ryu’s present-day narrative, you’ll encounter a crossroads. To find the Purgatory gate, instead of heading upstairs, veer left past the debris to discover the gate hidden around the corner.
Chapter 19: Ebon Wings

This chapter mirrors Chapter 18 in terms of navigation. However, instead of Ryu, you’ll control Yakumo. Follow the same route to find the Purgatory gate while remaining vigilant against any powerful attacks from lurking enemies.
