The latest installment in the Ninja Gaiden series offers an exhilarating experience that is both thrilling and engaging. The gameplay successfully upholds the franchise’s iconic combat system while integrating contemporary design elements to enhance accessibility.
Beyond its intense battles, Ninja Gaiden 4 introduces a charming new collectible called Gourdy. These adorable but shy demons hide throughout different chapters, adding an exciting layer of exploration to the game. There are a total of 15 Gourdies for players to discover, and you must play as Yakumo to collect them since Ryu is unable to locate these creatures.
While not every chapter features a Gourdy, this guide will spotlight the chapters where you can find them. Remember, you’ll need to successfully complete each chapter to gain credit for the Gourdies you collect.
Chapter 01
Bloodsoaked Tokyo
Although this chapter features the first Gourdy, it can be surprisingly easy to overlook. After acquiring the Caddis Wire, navigate across several platforms. When you land for the second time, Misaki will prompt you to head right; instead, look left to find the first Gourdy waiting for you.
Chapter 02
Haunted District
After navigating some rail grinding and tricky platforms, you will arrive at an arena with item boxes near red shipping crates on the back left. Head towards these crates and jump on top of them. From this vantage point, you can jump back towards the entrance, where the Gourdy awaits in the corner.
Chapter 03
Phantom Pleasure Quarter
Finding this Gourdy is a bit of a challenge as it requires a deliberate fall. After passing through a room with an Umi terminal and Tyran, you’ll encounter a wall run section. To uncover the hidden Gourdy, you must intentionally fail the wall run and drop into some obscured rooms. Clear out the enemies and continue forward to find the Gourdy nestled in the back right of a trash-filled room.
Chapter 04
Pilgrim’s Windswept Path
Upon obtaining the Dragonfly Glider, you’ll soar to a new platform and face several enemies. After clearing them out, slide under a cave to access a new area. While a chest may be tempting to pursue in the distance, divert right instead to find a blue Gourdy hiding on a lower platform. Caution is key here; if you approach too closely, the Gourdy will vanish. Jump from a distance and quickly use the Caddis Wire to grapple onto a nearby post, allowing you to capture the elusive demon.
Chapter 05
Raging Valley
This chapter contains two Gourdies. The first can be found in the cave system at an intersection marked by green torches near a shrine arch. Climb the wall to progress, but instead of turning right as indicated, go left and slide under some rocks to find your first Gourdy.
Your second Gourdies hide atop a temple roof in the village area, near a bell. Use the Caddis Wire twice to reach the roof, being cautious of noise as this Gourdy is also blue and easily frightened.
Chapter 06
Guiding Winds
This chapter focuses on ascending the mountains to reach the next Daemon. Among the various butterfly wall jump sections, the Gourdy is found after completing a sequence of these jumps. Turn around after the second jump to spot a brighter ledge, and jump down to grab the Gourdy.
Chapter 07
Altar of the Mountain God
In this boss-heavy chapter, there aren’t many hiding spots for the Gourdy; however, after some platforming, reach a space with a Umi terminal and Tyran. Avoid the stairs leading to the boss and explore to your left to find a Purgatory gate, behind which the Gourdy waits. If you struggle to locate Gourdies, increasing your screen brightness may help.
Chapter 08
Drowned District
This chapter offers one of the simplest Gourdy captures. Upon entry, move to the right where you will find a barrier with a small opening. Allow the blue Gourdy to approach you, then sneak up behind it when it’s distracted to successfully collect it.
Chapter 09
Realm of the Silent Dead
This chapter also contains two Gourdies for players to locate. The first is found after entering the second open Pond Strider area. Turn away from the cave entrance and use the Caddis Wire to platform left until you spot an AC unit nearby; the Gourdy resides there.
The second Gourdy is also hidden in the underworld. During your next visit, navigate until you encounter a butterfly wall jump section. After completing it, turn around to see a branching path; follow it to find a blue Gourdy, waiting for you to make your move.
Chapter 11
Infiltration
As you begin this chapter, you’ll quickly ascend walls through butterfly jumps until arriving at what appears to be a train station. Clear the area of pesky enemies and proceed past the container boxes to find a Gourdy waiting for you just around the corner.
Chapter 12
Dragon’s Maw
In this expansive chapter, you’ll need to navigate the level to uncover two Gourdies. The first can be found in a massive area resembling a spaceport. Traverse upstairs and, instead of going right, veer left behind some boxes to discover the Gourdy.
The second Gourdy is located later in the chapter. After defeating turrets and enemies, unlock a gate and look left immediately after passing through to find another blue Gourdy waiting to be captured.
Chapter 19
Ebon Wings
Most of this chapter involves ascending a building, following the path of destruction left by Ryu. After performing a butterfly wall jump, you will enter a dark room. While doors to the left lead to an Umi terminal, the Gourdy is found on the right side, resting calmly in front of some boxes, just sitting on the floor.
