Nine Classic Square Enix RPGs Coming to Xbox: Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Mana
Today, Microsoft concluded its Xbox Tokyo Game Show Broadcast with a noteworthy address from Xbox President Sarah Bond. She discussed the company’s expanding footprint in Asia and the significant investments being made in the region. Additionally, there was an exciting announcement for JRPG enthusiasts: a lineup of games from Square Enix is set to arrive on Xbox platforms, with several titles also appearing on Game Pass.
The remastered versions of the original six Final Fantasy games are coming to Xbox as Pixel Remasters. These remakes feature:
The Pixel Remaster series revitalizes these classic adventures with stunning new pixel art optimized for HD displays, along with beautifully rearranged soundtracks (which are truly remarkable!). Additionally, there are numerous quality-of-life improvements, such as multiple font choices, the option to revert to the original soundtracks for purists, experience boosts for faster leveling, the ability to disable random enemy encounters, and even an auto-battle feature.
Following the success of Visions of Mana, two more classic titles from the famed JRPG genre have now launched on Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and available through Game Pass: Trials of Mana and Legend of Mana.
Square Enix describes Trials of Mana as a “beautifully vibrant action-RPG where players select a party of three distinct heroes from a choice of six. Depending on your selections, you will experience a unique narrative as you progress through the game.”On the other hand, Legend of Mana introduces a unique world map concept that players fill out themselves:
Rather than a singular narrative, players can undertake up to 68 quests, each linked to three central plots but featuring their own distinct storylines. Players can engage with these quests in various sequences, creating their personalized world map as they play.
Lastly, the Dragon Quest III HD-2D REMAKE was highlighted during the event. Square Enix is adopting a graphics style inspired by Octopath Traveler to reinvent this beloved 1988 classic, allowing players to save the world from the nefarious Archfiend while they eagerly await the next installment in this cherished series.
The Dragon Quest III HD-2D REMAKE is set to launch on November 14, 2024.
