In the wake of Liam Payne’s death, Nicole Scherzinger took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute to him on Friday. Along with her heartfelt words, she included a joyful selfie featuring Payne, herself, and Kelly Rowland. As she previously mentioned, the singer emphasized her intention to “forever cherish and treasure”the memories they created together.
Scherzinger described it as a “blessing”to have collaborated with Payne recently, highlighting their shared “love and passion”for music. The singer also promised to keep in her heart the “meaningful and joyful conversations”they had.
Not long before his passing, Nicole Scherzinger and Liam Payne reunited for the upcoming Netflix series, Building the Band, where she was slated to act as a mentor and judge alongside AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys and Kelly Rowland, who would join Payne as judges. Her Instagram tribute further conveyed:
“It’s been so hard to process that you’re no longer here, but I am grateful to have known your kind heart, sweet soul and character.”
She added:
“You brought so much joy, light, and laughter to the lives of those that truly knew you. I will ‘miss you’ my friend and carry you in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. 🙏🏽♥️”
During her appearance on Good Morning America later that Friday, Nicole LSchrzinger elaborated on her tribute to Liam Payne. She reminisced about their closeness and expressed her heartbreak:
“We recently did a show together on Netflix called Building the Band. I’m heartbroken. I’m heartbroken for Liam. I’m heartbroken for his family and his loved ones and his fans. Liam always led with his heart and with kindness, and I really hope that’s how he’ll always be remembered.”
Nicole Scherzinger, along with Simon Cowell, is acknowledged for helping to form One Direction, which consisted of Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. A YouTube video from 2022 detailed how Scherzinger and Cowell brought the band together.
In the video, Simon Cowell suggested that Liam Payne should pursue a solo career, an idea that Scherzinger promptly dismissed. She stated:
“I don’t think so. I think that he would definitely shine; he could actually maybe be the leader. One of the leaders of this group.”
During a November 2023 appearance on Sherri, Scherzinger referenced this footage, humorously noting that she never expected it to be released, believing Simon Cowell would have “burned it.”She expressed immense pride in having contributed to the creation of One Direction, recognizing that the boy band “made history”. She explained:
“It’s really cool that it came out because what people are actually seeing is me actually putting them together the way that my mind grapes were working and being like look I just came out of a girl group, I know how successful and how powerful it can be to be a group. We’ve got to join forces.”
Liam Payne is survived by his parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, along with his elder sisters, Ruth and Nicola, and his 7-year-old son, Bear Grey Payne, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole.
