Nicki Minaj’s Comments on Stephen Colbert During Her 2023 Late Show Return

Nicki Minaj’s Comments on Stephen Colbert During Her 2023 Late Show Return

On December 20, 2023, Nicki Minaj made her highly anticipated return to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss her latest studio album, Pink Friday 2. During her previous visit in 2018, the rapper formed a strong rapport with the host, and the two quickly picked up their conversation from where they left off.

As Colbert showcased the cover art for the AI-generated extension of Minaj’s album featuring Gag City, he humorously photoshopped himself into the image. Nicki complimented him, referring to him as the “most handsome man on TV in Gag City.”

Nicki then engaged in a brief rap demonstration, which escalated into a playful rap battle with Colbert. She started with:

“High heels on for Stevie / If I marry Stevie he ain’t never gon’ leave me.”

Colbert playfully countered with:

“High heels or not, Nicki / You better hope you never meet my wife Evie.”

This jest alluded to a previous interview where Nicki had made some risqué comments about him.

Nicki Minaj’s First Appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Show

Nicki Minaj first graced The Late Show on August 14, 2018, where she aimed to promote her fourth studio album, Queen. Shortly after her introduction, Stephen Colbert presented the cover art for Nicki’s album, asking her about its inspiration. She explained:

“There’s kind of like a warfare Goddess, you can look her up [on Google], and so we took that as an image and we worked with that and kind of built to it and created this very angelic image of me.”

Colbert praised the artwork as “very regal”and discussed various tracks from her album. Notably, he pointed out one song, Barbie Dreams, that was generating considerable buzz.

Colbert proceeded to mention that Nicki had referenced several renowned men in her song, questioning why he wasn’t included in the list, which featured Drake, 50 Cent, Eminem, DJ Khaled, and Meek Mill:

“But I noticed that I’m not on the list of men… it’s a pretty comprehensive list, and I’m just curious that, if I were to make the list, how would you inform me?”

Without missing a beat, Nicki responded with her own rap:

“I might f*** Stephen after the show / he’s gonna back to work with a magical glow / but when you see us please [beep] don’t stare / Just address me as Queen Nicki Colbert.”

Colbert, taken aback by her boldness, quipped, “Well, it’s all downhill from here,”to which Nicki then inquired about his marital status, receiving a nervous confirmation.

Nicki Minaj Discusses Motherhood During Her Return to Colbert’s Show

Beyond their iconic rap battle, Nicki and Stephen explored various facets of her life during the December 2023 segment. Colbert acknowledged Minaj’s new role as a mother since her last appearance and asked what surprised her the most. She candidly shared:

“My life was so selfish before he came here. Since this little human came onto Planet Earth, I can’t do anything without thinking about him first. There’s this thing that happens every day when I see his face, which is more than anything money could buy in the world. So, I’m really happy I pushed him out!”

When questioned about the reasoning behind naming her son Papa Bear, Nicki simply stated that she was “just a nicknames person,”without disclosing his real name.

Three months after her appearance on The Late Show, Nicki Minaj launched her Pink Friday 2 world tour in March 2024, which is set to culminate on October 11 in New York.
