NFL fans react to Missouri voters rejecting stadium tax for Chiefs: “Clark Hunt is a cheap sack of sh*t” “Trash ownership”
It is possible that the Kansas City Chiefs may not continue to be located in Missouri due to the rejection of a new sales tax by Jackson County voters. According to a tweet from BroBible NFL writer Dov Kleiman, the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball may also contemplate relocating as a result of this decision.
One football fan commented on this development:
“Clark Hunt is a cheap sack of sh*t 🤣😭🤣😭🤣 fund your own stuff dude”
The Chiefs and Royals ownership have made a commitment to provide a $266 million “Community Benefits Agreement”for Jackson County, but its implementation is contingent upon the approval of the residents to extend the sales tax for the purpose of funding upgrades at Arrowhead.
At the same time, a different NFL fan shared:
“Trash ownership (unsurprising)”
Additional responses from X fans regarding the significant news that may determine the future of the four-time Super Bowl champion in Kansas City:
The decision to renovate Arrowhead Stadium was prompted by the team’s lackluster performance in the NFL Players Association’s Report Card for 2024, where they received failing grades in Nutritionist/Dietician, Locker Room, Training Staff, and Ownership. The only area in which they excelled was in the category of head coach, receiving an A+ grade.
On March 27, Garrett Carr of BroBible reported that Hunt denied making a promise to renovate the locker room, stating that there was a misunderstanding.
Reactions to the Chiefs’ Stadium Renovation Vote
According to KMBC News 9, 58 percent of voters (equivalent to 78,352 people) voted against the proposed sales tax, while 56,606 individuals voted in favor of it.
According to KMBC journalist Nick Sloan’s article, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas stated that following the victory of the “no”vote:
“The people of Kansas City and Jackson County love the Chiefs and the Royals. Today, they rejected plans and processes they found inadequate. Over the months ahead, I look forward to working with the Chiefs and Royals to build a stronger, more open, and collaborative process that will ensure the teams, their events and investments remain in Kansas City for generations to come.”
At the same time, Sam McDowell, a sports columnist for the Kansas City Star, reposted a statement from Chiefs team president Mark Donovan:
“We feel we put forth the best offer for Jackson County. We will look to do what is in the best interest of our fans and our organization as we move forward.”
According to The Athletic’s Nate Taylor, KC Tenants union leader Michael Savwoir expressed his frustration with the proposed sales tax, as reported by Taylor.
“Two billion dollars in taxpayers money, man, could do a hell of a lot to develop our community. The billionaires don’t finance my follies. Why should I finance theirs?”
