NFL fans divided over ex-NFL LB Melvin Ingram’s new rap song: “Worst thing I’ve ever heard,” “Lowkey banger”
After two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Melvin Ingram has become a free agent and has once again found himself on his favorite sideline.
The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker recently debuted a new song titled “House on Me”on Tuesday. In the song, he raps about topics such as wealth, gambling, and women. The accompanying music video shows him inside what seems to be a luxurious tour bus.
It was difficult for fans to determine whether it was positive or negative.
The rise of Melvin Ingram’s musical talent
When he is not making tackles and sacks on the field, Melvin Ingram can be heard rapping under the name King Mel.
In 2015, he debuted his first significant project, a mixtape titled From Nothing to Something. His preferred track from the mixtape, “Pops,”serves as a homage to his father Melvin Jr. who tragically passed away from a heart attack in 1998 when he was only nine years old. Interestingly, Melvin Jr. had foreseen his son’s success in the NFL.
In 2017, Ingram released two mixtapes. The first, Franchise Tag, was appropriately titled after the initial move made by the now-Los Angeles Chargers when he became a free agent in the offseason (which ultimately resulted in a four-year, $66 million contract extension). The second, Reap What You Sow, was a collaborative effort with BZZY.
During the time between these releases, he declared himself as “the most talented musician in the sports industry”in an interview with Complex. As the regular season commenced, he delved deeper into his music pursuits in a conversation with ESPN.
“I don’t tell no lies in my music,”Ingram said. “All of my music comes from my heart, and it’s my life, really. So that’s just me talking to him in my own little way. It’s like me venting.
“It means a lot writing music like that. You never know, somebody might be going through the same thing I’m going through. And when they hear what I’ve got going on, they might change what they have going on, or how they view a certain situation.”
Shortly after his first of three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons, Ingram released his debut studio album, King Talk, the following year. Since then, he has released four more mixtapes and another studio album, Street Gospel. He has also collaborated with other NFL players to contribute music for Electronic Arts’ Madden NFL 24.
