NFL Draft 2024 rumors: Bears host Caleb Williams as star QB closes in as no.1 draft pick

NFL Draft 2024 rumors: Bears host Caleb Williams as star QB closes in as no.1 draft pick

With the No. 1 overall draft pick, the Chicago Bears are highly likely to select Caleb Williams as their player of choice. This was made evident by their decision to trade Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, demonstrating the franchise’s clear intentions.

However, the team is still required to complete all the necessary procedures leading up to the NFL Draft, which involves a series of visits from potential draftees vying to be chosen by Chicago.

According to Sky Kruse of Bears Wire, it appears that the Bears utilized one of their 30 official visits on Williams. He dined with the team’s front office and a few players.

Kruse made a post on X:

“Caleb Williams was in Chicago last night & had dinner with the #Bears front office and some of the teams current players.”

It is evident that Caleb Williams will most likely become the Bears’ new quarterback, which has been widely speculated for some time now. Considering the high cost of trading up to the No.1 spot and the Bears’ strong interest in Williams, it is unlikely that any trade package would entice them to say yes.

It seems that Williams is their top choice, and they are currently completing all necessary procedures to officially announce it on draft night.

There was an initial thought that the Bears might consider trading down from the No.1 pick, especially since Justin Fields remained on their roster for a while after the conclusion of the season.

Despite the presence of other highly skilled quarterbacks like Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy, it is evident that the Bears will select Williams in the upcoming draft following the agreement to trade Fields to Pittsburgh. Amongst the talented pool of quarterbacks, Caleb Williams stands out as the top choice.

For a long time, he has been seen as the undeniable top choice and will now have the responsibility of reviving a Bears team that has experienced inconsistent performances from their quarterback during Fields’ tenure.

Despite Chicago’s 7-10 record last year, it is still expected that Williams will achieve at least seven wins this season with the help of new offensive weapons such as Keenan Allen. This would be considered a successful season for the team.

Despite the complexities of the NFL, one thing that is certain is that Williams will start his career as a member of the Bears.
