NFL analysts clown on “borderline stupid” UFL opening weekend’s attempt to challenge Shohei Ohtani and March Madness for viewership

The UFL’s first season officially commenced on Saturday, as eight teams prepare to compete for the title of champions over the course of the next 10 weeks.

Despite the “football”season having been over for some time now, many fans still crave the sport year-round. However, the timing of this weekend’s games by the United Football League was not ideal.

Despite the excitement of March Madness and the highly anticipated match between Shohei Ohtani’s LA Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals, the UFL may not see high viewership as most of the nation is captivated by college basketball.

The topic of conversation on the NFL on NBC was the exact issue that Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio and former NFL quarterback Chris Simms had discussed.

“Not the best weekend to move the needle nationally,”Florio said. “Not the best weekend to stand out. Are they trying to fail?”

Simms, Florio’s co-host, also shared his thoughts on the challenges facing the UFL.

“It’s kind of borderline stupid, there’s March Madness and opening day.”

The XFL and USFL have joined forces to form a single league, and the leaders of this new league are undoubtedly working hard to ensure its successful launch.

Regrettably for the league, competing with March Madness and the MLB will most likely not yield positive results due to the significant amount of national interest in both events. The league continues to strive to gain a following for spring football, but the current timing of its season kick-off may not be ideal. Therefore, delaying the start of the new season may be the most favorable option.

The XFL and the USFL have merged during the offseason and will now operate under the new name of the UFL.

The competition consists of two conferences, namely the XFL and the USFL, each comprising of four teams.

During the first weekend of the season, the San Antonio Brahmas, Birmingham Stallions, Memphis Showboats, and Michigan Panthers all emerged victorious. The Brahmas were the standout team with a dominant 27-12 win over the D.C. Defenders.

Despite the efforts of both the XFL and USFL to attract more fans to their respective leagues, their recent merger offers hope for increased interest in the newly formed league.

Perhaps as a consideration for the future, the league should not schedule its season to coincide with both March Madness and MLB.
