NFL analyst throws cold water on Ezekiel Elliott’s dreams of returning to the good old days with potential return to Dak Prescott
Despite speculation that Ezekiel Elliott’s time with the Dallas Cowboys was coming to a close due to the emergence of Tony Pollard, it now seems that both the team and the former running back are interested in a reunion, suggesting that Elliott may have the final say in impressing Jerry Jones.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has reported that Elliott and the Cowboys are willing to consider reuniting. While the running back and his supporters may be hoping for a return to previous successes, an NFL analyst is cautioning against getting too excited about the potential move.
During Monday’s airing of “Get Up,”Damien Woody, a former NFL player and current analyst, predicted a low potential for the running back if he were to rejoin the team that originally drafted him.
“I think that Zeke Elliott is more of a complementary piece at this stage in his career,”Woody said.
Despite acknowledging Elliott’s status as one of the “all-time greats”for the Cowboys, the analyst argued that his inclusion would not significantly alter the team’s performance.
“I don’t see Zeke as a guy coming in and just going to give this huge boost,”Woody added.
Impact of Ezekiel Elliott’s potential addition on the future of the Cowboys’ franchise
Thus far, the Cowboys have refrained from commenting on potential additions to enhance Dak Prescott, Mike McCarthy, and Mike Zimmer.
If Jones were to add Elliott, who is one of Prescott’s oldest friends on the team, many would view it as an extension of an olive branch and a potential peace offering due to the slow pace of negotiations.
Including Ezekiel Elliott on the team would likely be significantly more cost-effective than increasing Dak Prescott’s upcoming salary. While he may have thoughts of potentially using free agency as a bargaining tool, any attempts to depart would also inadvertently affect his friend as an unintended consequence.
The addition of Elliott to the Dallas Cowboys demonstrates Jones’ commitment to retaining his quarterback. Despite the ongoing contract negotiations, there has been speculation that Jones may consider a reset after 2024. However, the inclusion of Elliott provides justification to reconsider that belief.
