Recent developments have surfaced regarding AMD’s next-generation graphics architecture, identified as GFX1250, which is part of the CDNA lineup. This revelation has sparked interest among tech enthusiasts and industry experts alike.

Understanding AMD’s GFX1250: Insights into the New CDNA Architecture

As anticipated, AMD continues to innovate with newer architectures to enhance its GPU offerings. Industry analysts suggest that the forthcoming RDNA 4 successors may incorporate UDNA (Unified DNA) technology. This approach aims to merge the strengths of both RDNA and CDNA architectures, positioning AMD competitively against NVIDIA’s established CUDA ecosystem. However, recent leaks hint at a divergence from this consensus.

The addition of the “GFX1250″device ID to the Kernel codebase was detected by @Kepler_L2. This entry confirms that “CDNA”is explicitly designated as the architecture for this new chip. Familiarity with AMD’s device IDs reveals a clear pattern: for instance, the GFX1100 corresponds to RDNA 3, GFX1150 and above designate RDNA 3.5, while RDNA 4 begins with GFX1200.

The “GFX1250″appears to represent an extension of the RDNA 4 architecture, akin to the GFX1150’s role in transitioning from RDNA 3 to RDNA 3.5. Additionally, prior indications labeled “UDNA”architecture as GFX13 (or GFX1300), suggesting that GFX1250 could potentially power the MI400 series before AMD shifts toward the GFX13/14 IPs, marking the inception of the UDNA generation.

However, the explicit mention of “CDNA”raises questions regarding its association with the RDNA 4 successors. Is this a sign of an RDNA 4.5, or does it hint at the advent of UDNA? The ambiguity leaves us speculating whether GFX1250 indeed relates to a successor to RDNA 4 or represents an entirely new architectural path.

In terms of integrated graphics, there are currently no indications that AMD will introduce an RDNA 4 architecture for its CPUs/APUs. Instead, the RDNA 3.5 architecture will continue on the Medusa Point platform. Thus, it is unlikely that the GFX1250 will feature in AMD’s CPU/APU offerings.
