NewJeans Rebrands as NJZ Amid Ongoing Dispute with ADOR
In a decisive move to reinvent themselves, the members of NewJeans have officially unveiled a new group name, NJZ, following a challenging dispute with their former agency, ADOR. This rebranding indicates their commitment to a fresh artistic identity as they navigate the complexities of their current situation.
Debut Performance at ComplexCon
Recently announced via their Instagram, NJZ, comprised of members Danielle, Haerin, Hanni, Hyein, and Minji, is set to take the stage for the first time at ComplexCon. Scheduled to occur in Hong Kong from March 21 to 23, the group will also debut a new song; however, the specific date for their performance within the event remains unconfirmed.
“We are thrilled to be stepping onto the stage for the first time as NJZ and share something new with everyone, ”Minji said in a press release published on the ComplexCon’s website.“It’s a big moment for us and we can’t wait for fans to be a part of this journey with us and show the world our new music that we have been eagerly waiting to share.”
Background of the Dispute
This rebranding resonates deeply with the ongoing conflict between NJZ and ADOR. The tension escalated when the members terminated their exclusive contracts, citing mistreatment and contract violations as primary reasons. The group has publicly accused ADOR of neglecting artist welfare, mismanaging their careers, orchestrating negative media narratives, and secretly undermining their support systems by communicating with their families.
ADOR’s Legal Actions
In response, ADOR asserts that the group’s actions violate their existing contract, claiming it remains in force. The agency has initiated legal proceedings, filing an injunction against NJZ.
Upcoming Legal Proceedings
The first court hearing concerning the injunction is set for March 7, while a subsequent hearing to assess the validity of the group’s contract is scheduled for April 3. To navigate these legal challenges, NJZ has appointed the law firm Sejong, alongside Shin & Kim LLC, as their legal representatives.
ComplexCon Highlights and Ticket Sales
Amid these challenges, NJZ will co-headline ComplexCon with notable artists such as Quavo, Metro Boomin, and Zico. Tickets for the highly anticipated event will go on sale beginning February 10, with early access for HSBC credit and Mastercard holders. General ticket sales will follow on February 12.
