Microsoft Unveils New Windows 11 Updates for Dev and Beta Channels
Microsoft has recently announced a series of updates for Windows Insiders, specifically targeting users in the Dev and Beta Channels. These updates mark a significant moment as both channels received similar builds alongside the same detailed changelog.
Latest Build Details
Those enrolled in the Dev Channel can access build 26200.5603 (KB5058488)
, while Beta Channel users have been provided with build 26120.4151 (KB5058486)
. Each of these updates introduces a host of exciting new features, including enhanced AI functionalities in File Explorer, a revamped Windows Widgets interface, and the innovative Advanced page within the Settings app, among other improvements.
Exciting New Features
One of the standout innovations included in the latest builds is the introduction of AI actions in File Explorer, which were initially previewed at Build 2025. Users can now right-click on image files (specifically JPG, JPEG, and PNG formats) to access a range of AI capabilities including Bing Visual Search, background blur, object erasure, and background removal. Microsoft plans to expand these features to Microsoft 365 files in the near future, enabling users to summarize documents and generate FAQs.

The Settings app has also undergone substantial updates with the introduction of the new Advanced page, which replaces the outdated For Developers section. This page integrates features that were previously offered in the now-discontinued Dev Home app, allowing users to manage folder path limitations, enable virtual environments, and enhance File Explorer capabilities, including GitHub integration.

Moreover, the Windows Widgets experience is receiving a fresh coat of paint. Microsoft is testing a new layout that promises a more organized and engaging user experience. This redesign includes personalized content curated by Copilot, although certain older features such as widget pinning and feed deactivation are still in development. If users prefer the classic layout, they may revert back easily.

Performance Enhancements
Another noteworthy feature is the introduction of User Interaction-Aware CPU Power Management. This system-level enhancement is designed to optimize power usage, thereby extending battery life. The operating system can now recognize periods of user inactivity and implement power-saving measures, restore functionality once the user resumes interaction with their PC.
The updates also enhance the Share UI, now allowing users to select the compression level for images during sharing (ranging from 0 to 100).

Bug Fixes and Known Issues
Beyond new features, these updates also aim to address various known issues:
- General:
- Resolved an issue preventing core Windows surfaces from loading properly in safe mode.
- Start Menu:
- Fixed a problem causing a blank Start menu for some Insiders.
- File Explorer:
- Corrected an issue that caused the window to unmaximize when clicking the new tab button.
However, users should be aware of some lingering bugs:
- General:
- After a PC reset, the build version might inaccurately display as Build 26100 instead of Build 26200; this does not affect future updates.
- The reset option in Settings may not function correctly in this build.
- Xbox Controllers:
- Some users report issues with Xbox Controllers connected via Bluetooth causing system bugs.
