New Windows 11 Beta Build 23H2 Released for Insiders
Microsoft has officially launched a fresh Beta build for Windows 11, specifically version 23H2, identified as Build 22635.5170 (KB5055623).This update introduces several enhancements to File Explorer, addressing how it manages external links, along with improvements to context menu labels for common file operations and fixes within the Start menu.
Highlights of the Update
Below is a concise changelog detailing the most significant alterations:
General Enhancements
This update encompasses a variety of minor improvements and fixes designed to enrich the overall experience for Insiders utilizing this build on their devices.
File Explorer Modifications
- We are reintroducing a feature where launching File Explorer folders from outside the application—such as through desktop shortcuts or other apps—will now default to opening in a new tab if another File Explorer window is already active. Users who prefer the traditional method of opening a new window can modify this preference under File Explorer’s folder options, specifically in General > Browse Folders.
- The feature that added labels for actions like cut, copy, paste, rename, share, and delete in the context menu of File Explorer has currently been disabled. However, Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel can opt for version 24H2 builds to regain access to this feature.
Fixes and Improvements
This build also includes crucial bug fixes and system enhancements, as outlined below:
Start Menu Adjustments
- A fix has been implemented to resolve an issue where increased text sizes caused the sign-out and additional options buttons to be obscured in the Start menu account manager.
File Explorer Resolutions
- Addressed a concern that led to File Explorer crashing in certain instances while copying or renaming files in previous updates.
Input Corrections
- Fixed a problem where typing in specific applications would become unresponsive after disconnecting from a remote desktop session.
Known Bugs to Monitor
As with any software release, some issues remain. Below is a list of known bugs pertaining specifically to the Start menu in this build:
Start Menu Issues
- Users may notice that when right-clicking on an application, the “Start settings” context menu flashes briefly before the correct app context menu displays.
