New Windows 11 24H2 Updates for Setup and Recovery Released by Microsoft (KB5043934, KB5044075)

Last week, Microsoft rolled out the September 2024 non-security preview update identified as KB5043145 for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2. Unfortunately, this update has proven to be quite buggy, leading Microsoft to retract it. Alongside these updates for the mentioned versions, Microsoft also released an update for Windows 11 24H2 under KB5043178.

As part of its standard procedure for such updates, Microsoft has concurrently issued Recovery and Setup binary updates this time as well. A new update for the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), identified as KB5043934, has been published, along with the Setup binaries update available under KB5044075.

Microsoft states:

KB5043934: Safe OS Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 24H2: September 30, 2024

Summary

This update enhances the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) in Windows 11, version 24H2.

KB5044075: Setup Dynamic Update for Windows 11, version 24H2: September 30, 2024

Summary

This update improves Windows setup binaries and any files utilized during feature updates in Windows 11, version 24H2.

In a Techcommunity blog post, Microsoft provided a detailed explanation of Dynamic Updates related to Windows 10, covering its various components and their functions. These packages include critical fixes to Setup.exe binaries, SafeOS updates for the Windows Recovery Environment, among others:

As soon as a Windows 10 feature update begins, whether initiated from media or through a Windows Update service, Dynamic Update is one of the initial steps activated. The Windows 10 Setup contacts an Internet-facing URL maintained by Microsoft to retrieve Dynamic Update content and subsequently applies those updates to your OS installation media.

Included content consists of:

  • Setup Updates: Fixes for Setup binaries or any files utilized during feature updates.
  • Safe OS Updates: Fixes for the “safe OS”used to update the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  • Servicing Stack Updates: Necessary fixes to address Windows 10 servicing stack issues, essential for completing the feature update.
  • Latest Cumulative Update: Installation of the newest cumulative quality update.
  • Driver Updates: The latest versions of applicable drivers published by manufacturers available in Windows Update, specifically targeted for Dynamic Update.

Additionally, Dynamic Update will ensure that Language Packs (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) content remain intact during the upgrade process. While these are not updates to LPs and FODs, they facilitate the reacquisition of these components to ensure user access upon the completion of the update.

These dynamic updates are not distributed through Windows Update and must be manually downloaded via the Windows Update Catalog website, which you can access here. This update applies to both Arm64 and AMD64 Copilot+ PCs.

Meanwhile, it seems that an update for all user PCs could be released soon, as Microsoft has hinted at it. Additionally, numerous users are experiencing noticeably improved performance on their Windows 11 PCs, which is always promising.
