Recent reports suggest that Apple’s anticipated upgrade for Siri, dubbed the Apple Intelligence update, has been postponed until the release of iOS 18.5, which is expected to debut in May. In the interim, iPhone users can look forward to enhancements in the Gemini app, which has just received a significant update.

Enhanced Accessibility with Gemini’s New Features

The latest Gemini update, available on both iOS and iPadOS platforms, is designed to improve user interaction with Gemini AI. Users will now benefit from enhanced access to various features without the need to launch the app manually or utilize a shortcut. As reported by 9To5Google, the app introduces six new lockscreen widgets that streamline user functionality:

  • Type Prompt: Quickly pose a question or input a query.
  • Talk Live: Engage in a conversation or brainstorm with Gemini.
  • Open Mic: Easily activate your microphone for setting reminders and creating calendar events.
  • Use Camera: Capture images and inquire about their content.
  • Share Image: Present an image for further insights or artistic creation.
  • Share File: Utilize a document to convey information or inspiration relevant to your queries.

Significant Changes Following Google’s App Launch

This update marks a crucial milestone for Gemini, especially following Google’s decision to launch a dedicated iPhone app last November, separating it from the traditional Google search platform. The primary shortcut app provides a quick access point to the Gemini app, enabling users to type prompts directly.

New Shortcuts and Features Available Now

Additionally, users can customize their iPhone’s lockscreen by assigning any of the six Gemini shortcuts to the corner buttons. These shortcuts are also accessible from the Control Center, enhancing the overall user experience. The new features are currently operational with the latest version of the Gemini app, 1.2025.0762303, which is downloadable from the App Store.

Beyond the shortcuts, this update introduces the “Deep Research” feature aimed at Gemini Advanced users, along with a variety of user interface (UI) improvements and essential bug fixes to enhance performance.
