In anticipation of the upcoming return of the Plunderstorm game mode in World of Warcraft, Blizzard has unveiled a selection of enticing pirate-themed rewards. These include mounts, pets, and various cosmetic ensembles. The rewards will be accessible through the new Plunderstore, which replaces the traditional Renown system, providing players with enhanced options to customize their rewards.
Initially launched with Patch 10.2.6 in the Dragonflight expansion, Plunderstorm is a battle royale player-versus-player (PvP) mode that accommodates up to 60 participants in the Arathi Basin. Drawing inspiration from popular games like Fortnite, it allows players to engage in Solo or Duo queues, gather Plunder, and utilize spells inspired by the diverse array of 13 classes in World of Warcraft. The first edition of Plunderstorm lasted more than a month and was positively received, particularly by players looking for a refreshing gameplay experience. Though Blizzard originally designated it as a limited-time event, the community’s feedback encouraged the game developer to bring it back.
New Rewards for Plunderstorm Players
Nearly a year after its initial introduction, Plunderstorm is returning with an array of new rewards. A recent announcement from Blizzard highlighted that players can unlock various rewards, including the Hooktalon and Plunderlord’s Midnight Crocolisk mounts, as well as the Sparklesnap and Parley battle pets. Additionally, the Plunderlord’s Stormridden Finery transmog ensemble will also be available. Each of these new items features a darkened recolor of previously available Renown cosmetics. In response to community input, Blizzard significantly revamped the reward system and discontinued the Renown track, favoring the new Plunderstore where players can use Plunder earned from regular gameplay.

In conjunction with the return of Plunderstorm, World of Warcraft is introducing a new Twitch Drops reward for players who link their Twitch and Battle.net accounts. By watching up to four hours of World of Warcraft content on any participating channel, players can unlock the Coward’s Azure Target as a back piece for their transmog collections. This campaign will run from January 14 to February 4, giving players an ample three-week window to claim their exclusive cosmetic reward.
Plunderstorm is set to run from January 14 to February 18. The future of this swashbuckling battle royale mode as a recurring event will depend both on player engagement and Blizzard’s direction moving forward.
