Microsoft Introduces Email Recall Feature for Outlook on Mac
In an exciting update for Mac users, Microsoft has officially launched the Email Recall feature in Outlook for Mac, as announced on the Microsoft 365 Insider Blog. This enhancement allows users to retract emails they regret having sent.
Long-Awaited Functionality
This capability has been available for users on Outlook for Windows and the web for years, providing them with the ability to retract messages sent in error due to typos, misplaced attachments, or incorrect recipients. The addition of this feature to Mac marks a significant step in enhancing user experience across Microsoft’s platforms.
How to Use the Recall Feature
If you’re eager to make the most out of this functionality, follow these simple steps:
- Locate the email in your Sent Items folder that you wish to recall.
- From the context menu, select “Recall”to remove the email from all recipients’ inboxes.
- You will receive a notification email indicating whether the recall was successful.
Important Considerations
It’s crucial to remember that the Recall feature is not foolproof. For instance, it may not work on older emails, in which case Microsoft recommends following up with a clarifying email.
Additionally, the recall functionality operates only when the recipient has a Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Exchange account within the same organization. This limitation is an important aspect to keep in mind for effective email management.
Availability and How to Join the Insider Program
Currently, the recall feature is available in Beta for users running Outlook Version 16.94 (Build 25011325) or later, with a broader Preview rollout expected in February 2025.
For those interested in getting involved, Microsoft offers guidance on joining the Microsoft 365 Insider Program for Mac. However, note that if your organization has disabled this option, you will be unable to enroll if your Microsoft 365 subscription is through work or school.
Future Outlook and Recent Changes
Notably, this rollout follows Microsoft’s recent announcement regarding the automatic installation of the New Outlook for Windows app on devices running Windows 10, a process that has already been underway for Windows 11 users (version 23H2).
