New Microsoft 365 Copilot Notebooks Integration in OneNote for Windows

Microsoft has recently introduced a significant new feature for its Enterprise customers: Microsoft 365 Copilot Notebooks, which are now seamlessly integrated with OneNote on Windows. This advanced tool leverages artificial intelligence to unify various resources such as Copilot Chat, files, notes, and links, all designed to enhance productivity for users.

The tech giant’s initiative focuses on simplifying how enterprises compile content, comprehend intricate subjects, and create “smarter content”through Copilot Notebooks. Importantly, this enhancement is tailored specifically for Enterprise users, rather than Personal or Family subscribers, underscoring Microsoft’s commitment to meeting the needs of businesses.

Boosting Productivity with Copilot Notebooks

When initiating a new notebook, users have the ability to assign a name and include supporting references like OneNote pages and various file formats such as.docx, .pptx, .xlsx, .pdf, and.loop files. This contextual information empowers Copilot to generate more precise insights and answers.

After setting up your notebook and plugging in the reference documents, Copilot Notebooks can assist in extracting key insights, formulating summaries, and even producing audio briefs to aid in understanding content efficiently.

It is important to note, however, that there are some limitations with these notebooks. Currently, you can incorporate only 20 reference files, and only individual OneNote pages can be linked, not sections or entire notebooks. Microsoft may enhance these capabilities in the future, but for now, users should work within these parameters.

Additionally, certain OneNote features remain incompatible with Copilot Notebooks. Functions such as tags, section groups, inking, templates, password protection, Immersive Reader, and offline support are currently unavailable within this new framework.

Availability and Implications for Enterprise Users

Copilot Notebooks in OneNote for Windows are accessible to Enterprise customers holding a relevant Microsoft 365 license, including those with Copilot, SharePoint, or OneDrive access. This feature requires OneNote Version 2504 (Build 18827.20128) or later. For any feedback or issues, users can navigate to Help > Feedback to directly communicate with Microsoft. As this feature is currently in the Insider preview phase, users are encouraged to share their experiences to aid in its development before it reaches full release.
