Since embarking on her collaboration with Aka Akasaka for Oshi no Ko in 2020, Mengo Yokoyari has proven to be a dynamic force in the manga industry. This partnership resulted in an impressive synergy between Akasaka’s storytelling and Yokoyari’s illustrations, contributing to the series selling over 20 million copies within four years—a remarkable feat, particularly when compared to Aka Akasaka’s earlier work, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, which achieved 22 million copies over nearly ten years.

The popularity of Oshi no Ko soared with the release of its anime adaptation, announced in 2022, with the first episode airing in 2023. The anime featured 12 episodes, all receiving accolades from audiences. Following this success, a second season was confirmed quickly, with its debut set for June 2024.

Once again, the animated adaptation garnered enthusiastic feedback, prompting Doga Kobo to announce a third season. After a brief wait, it was confirmed that Oshi no Ko season 3 is scheduled to air in 2026, though details regarding the number of episodes are still forthcoming.

While opinions vary greatly among fans regarding the conclusion, it is difficult to ignore the consensus, especially given the author’s admission that the ending would provoke strong reactions. A subsequent novel attempted to elaborate on the conclusion, though many fans felt it only added to their frustrations.
