Exciting MagSafe Innovations: Qi 2.2 Standard Integration for iPhone 17
A recent leak shared by MacRumors indicates the presence of two new MagSafe chargers—model numbers A3503 and A3502—located within Taiwan’s regulatory framework. These chargers reportedly support the updated Qi 2.2 standard, promising substantial enhancements over their predecessors. While their design retains the familiar circular puck format and braided white cable, the fundamental technological improvements are noteworthy.
The Qi 2 standard, previously capped at a mere 15W output, has seen an evolution with the iPhone 16 series, which introduced 30W MagSafe charging capabilities. The newer Qi 2.2 standard not only increases potential wireless charging wattage to 50W but also improves magnetic alignment, efficiency, and remains backward compatible with older Qi chargers. Thus, transitioning to this new standard promises an overall better user experience.


While Apple has yet to officially unveil these new MagSafe charging solutions, it’s likely due to the company’s desire to maintain an air of mystery leading up to the iPhone 17’s release later this year. It is important to note, however, that even if the Qi 2.2 standard supports up to 50W, Apple may not provide complete wattage capabilities in its devices.
