Microsoft’s Latest Windows 11 Preview Build 27902: A Closer Look
Microsoft has begun the rollout of a new preview build for Windows 11 in the Canary Channel, identified as build 27902. Windows Insiders can now download this update, which focuses primarily on bug fixes and general enhancements, rather than introducing new features. Notably, the nostalgic Windows Vista startup sound remains a topic of discussion, as it has not yet been addressed. Below, we detail the key improvements and known issues associated with this release.
Changelog Highlights
- General Improvements:
- This update aims to enhance the overall user experience for Insiders, including a variety of minor tweaks and fixes designed to uplift system performance.
- File Explorer Enhancements:
- The latest build resolves a previous issue within File Explorer where view changes were not saving. This bug had also affected desktop icons, leading to unexpected modifications in size and position. Users like Jen can now enjoy a more stable experience.
- Camera Functionality:
- A fix has been implemented to address a bug that occasionally froze the Camera app when switching between different cameras on certain PCs in earlier builds.
Known Issues
In addition to the improvements, there are several known bugs that Insiders should be aware of:
- General:
- Critical Note for Copilot+ Users: Users transitioning to the Canary Channel from the Dev, Release Preview Channels, or retail installations on a new Copilot+ PC may encounter issues with Windows Hello PIN and biometrics, resulting in error code 0xd0000225. To resolve this, users can recreate their PIN by selecting “Set up my PIN.”
- New Bug Alert: An issue has emerged with this build, affecting some Insiders who experience repeated bug checks labeled KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE, often related to VPN connections.
- This Canary Channel update also includes a unique feature where it plays the Windows Vista boot sound instead of the standard Windows 11 sound, with an expected fix for this in a future update.
- Settings Glitches:
- Currently, a problem is under investigation that may cause the Settings app to crash when users interact with options under Settings > System > Power & Battery.
- New Display Issue: Some apostrophes displayed in Settings and related dialogs may appear incorrectly, showing random characters instead.
- Remote Desktop:
- Users on Arm64 PCs may encounter significant graphical distortions and rendering problems while using Remote Desktop in this build.
