New Features in Microsoft 365 Copilot for August 2025

Over the past several days, we’ve highlighted new features introduced by Microsoft for Excel and Teams, as seen over the last four weeks. Now, it’s time to shift our focus to the recent developments within Microsoft 365 Copilot, a tool that the company has been vigorously marketing. This month’s update log is notably concise, reflecting just two administrative enhancements.

Administrative Enhancements in Microsoft 365 Copilot

To begin, SharePoint agents will become accessible in the Microsoft 365 admin center’s agent inventory starting in September. This addition will facilitate easier discovery, governance, and management for administrators. Currently, administrators have the ability to track Copilot Search adoption trends across their organization while also being empowered to deactivate ownerless agents through the same administrative interface.

New Features on the Consumer Side

On the consumer side, users can look forward to utilizing SharePoint agents within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app and the Teams app store next month. In the meantime, the Copilot Chat feature now allows users to experience GPT-5, along with a newly introduced Tools menu containing specialized AI agents such as Researcher and Analyst.

Additional Copilot Capabilities

Several notable advancements are also available this month:

  • When using Copilot Chat within Outlook or Microsoft 365 Copilot, the AI assistant is now able to reference email attachments.
  • PowerPoint presentations can be rapidly generated with the help of Copilot.
  • Users can analyze and edit images directly in Copilot Chat, with a more comprehensive visual editor set to debut next month.
  • Individuals without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can now create images on the web, macOS, and Windows, with mobile support scheduled for October.
  • Users of Microsoft Edge for Business can take advantage of summarization features in Copilot Chat.
  • Custom dictionaries are now available for Copilot in Teams, enhancing user experience and personalization.
