Spice Up Our Love, featuring Lee Sang-yi, Han Ji-hyun, and Lee You-jin, premiered its first two episodes on Prime Video and TVING on Thursday, October 3, 2024. This romantic drama serves as a spin-off to the acclaimed tvN series, No Gain No Love, which centers around the second lead couple portrayed by Han Ji-hyun and Lee Sang-yi.
The narrative revolves around Nam Ja-yeon, a 19+ web novel author who unexpectedly finds herself within the pages of her own web novel, The CEO’s Menu. She embodies the character of Seo Yeon-seo, a nutritionist employed at GB Electronics.
In the series, Lee Sang-yi takes on the role of Kang Ha-jun, the CEO of GB Electronics and the male protagonist in the novel. Nam Ja-yeon is taken aback to discover that Kang Ha-jun does not resemble her muse and first love, Yeo Ha-jun (played by Lee You-jin).
The plot intensifies as she notices that Kang Ha-jun bears a remarkable resemblance to her anti-fan, Bok Gyu-hyun (also portrayed by Lee Sang-yi). By the conclusion of the drama, Nam Ja-yeon awakens in a hospital and finds Bok Gyu-hyun standing before her.
This series delves into the backstory of a scene from No Gain No Love episode 6, where Nam Ja-yeon realizes she is dreaming of her novel. Both episodes offered closure to the storyline, eliminating any hints of future episodes. However, neither TVING nor Prime Video has announced plans for additional episodes.
Spice Up Our Love Character Cast Featuring Han Ji-hyun, Lee Sang-yi, and Lee You-jin
- Nam Ja-yeon — Seo Yeon-seo (Han Ji-hyun)
- Bok Gyu-hyun — Kang Ha-jun (Lee Sang-yi)
- Yeo Ha-jun — Kim Do-gyeom (Lee You-jin)
In the inaugural episode of Spice Up Our Love, Seo Yeon-seo discovers her boyfriend Kim Do-gyeom’s infidelity. Fuming, she unfairly accuses the CEO, Kang Ha-jun, of forcing her to work overtime, which led to her inability to spend time with her boyfriend. Unbeknownst to her, she encounters Kang Ha-jun after a one-night stand.
As episode 1 unfolds, Nam Ja-yeon learns that Kang Ha-jun resembles Bok Gyu-hyun, a critic who spreads negativity about her novel. Additionally, she realizes that Kim Do-gyeom, Seo Yeon-seo’s former lover and the novel’s antagonist, bears a striking resemblance to Yeo Ha-jun, who is also Nam Ja-yeon’s high school friend and the secretary to Bok Gyu-hyun in No Gain No Love.
In a surprising turn, Seo Yeon-seo, under the influence of Nam Ja-yeon, convinces Kang Ha-jun that she is the author of The CEO’s Menu and that they exist within her narrative. As Nam Ja-yeon is an author whose characters inevitably fall for each other, she finds herself in a love story with Kang Ha-jun, despite her disdain for Bok Gyu-hyun.
The Connection Between Spice Up Our Love and No Gain No Love
In episode 6 of No Gain No Love, Nam Ja-yeon receives an apology letter from Bok Gyu-hyun, which only serves to infuriate her further. In a moment of chaos, she witnesses him nearly get struck by a truck and faints. Thankfully, Bok Gyu-hyun recovers and rushes to her aid after spotting her on the pavement.
He brings her to the hospital, where Nam Ja-yeon drifts into a deep sleep due to the shock, during which she dreams the events in Spice Up Our Love. Upon awakening, she feels immense relief to find Bok Gyu-hyun alive and realizes her adventures were merely a dream.
