New Context Menu Feature in Windows 11 for Android Users

The latest Windows 11 preview build from the Beta Channel, released earlier this week, brings some intriguing updates, particularly for Android users. Following the introduction of the capability to explore your Android smartphone’s file system directly within File Explorer, Microsoft has added a new entry in the context menu that facilitates the process of transferring files to your mobile device.

To transfer a file from your computer to your phone, simply right-click the desired file and select “Send to My Phone.”However, be aware that this option will only appear if Phone Link is properly configured and running. Unfortunately, iPhone users will not benefit from this feature, as most of the top Phone Link functionalities remain exclusive to Android due to Apple’s closed operating system environment.

Microsoft elaborates on this new feature:

We are adding the ability to share content with an Android device from the context menu in File Explorer and on the desktop. To make use of this feature, you must have Phone Link installed and configured on your PC.

The new “Send to My Phone”context menu option is currently being rolled out to Windows Insiders within the Beta Channel, provided the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available”toggle is enabled. As always, you can expedite the process by force-enabling a feature using the ViVeTool app. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Download ViveTool from GitHub and unzip the files in a convenient location.
  2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator by pressing Win + R, typing cmd, and hitting Ctrl + Shift + Enter.
  3. Use the CD command to navigate to the folder where the ViveTool files are stored. For example, if you saved ViveTool in C:\Vive, enter CD C:\Vive.
  4. Type vivetool /enable /id:45286369,52800817 and press Enter.
  5. Restart your computer to apply the changes.

The “Send to My Phone”context menu entry is not the only new addition from Microsoft. One of the recent updates for Photos introduced a new “Edit in Photos”feature as well.
