Scream 7 has officially kicked off filming, and the excitement is palpable as director Kevin Williamson shared a sneak peek with fans through a behind-the-scenes photo on social media.

This highly anticipated sequel has faced several challenges on its path to production. Initially announced following the release of the sixth film, Williamson was appointed as director, with Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega expected to reprise their roles as Sam and Tara Carpenter. The project experienced significant setbacks when Barrera was dismissed due to alleged controversial statements regarding Palestine, deemed anti-Semitic by Spyglass Media—a claim that Barrera, along with many supporters, contests. Shortly thereafter, Ortega withdrew over scheduling conflicts and salary negotiations. Fortunately, with Williamson at the helm and Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott after her absence in the previous installment, the project appears to be back on track.

In his Instagram post, Williamson celebrated filming’s commencement, showcasing the new Scream 7 logo adorned with blood splatters more pronounced than previous films. In a candid moment, he confessed that the post was not initially sanctioned but expressed hope for leniency from Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media. Furthermore, he praised the dedicated cast and crew, referencing the lasting influence that the late Wes Craven had on him throughout the day. Williamson remarked, “The profound impact he has had on my life and career is endless,”reflecting on Craven’s legacy in the horror genre.

While specific information regarding the film’s plot is scarce, new casting announcements hint at an intriguing storyline. Isabella May has been added to the cast as Sidney Prescott’s daughter, with McKenna Grace joining afterward. Although Grace’s character has not been officially confirmed, speculation suggests she might also portray a daughter of Prescott. Regardless of the final decision, it’s clear the killing spree orchestrated by Ghostface is likely to intertwine closely with the Prescott lineage.

Nevertheless, fan reactions are mixed. Concerns over Barrera’s departure have led to discussions of boycotts, although calls have cooled since production began.
