Introducing Live Captions and Real-Time Translation

This update enhances communication across AMD and Intel®-powered Copilot+ PCs by integrating live captions and real-time translation features. Users will now be able to translate over 44 languages into English during real-time video conferences, recorded content, and streaming sessions. The real-time translation functionality is gradually being implemented for Copilot+ PCs operating primarily in English. Other Improvements and Fixes

Gradual Changes and Enhancements for Dev Channel Users

Live Captions

For users with Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ devices, we are excited to announce the gradual rollout of real-time translation capabilities to Simplified Chinese. Supported languages now include a diverse range such as Arabic, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovene, and Swedish.

Known Issues to Address

General Observations

  • Post-PC reset via Settings > System > Recovery, the build version may inaccurately display as Build 26100 instead of the accurate Build 26120. Rest assured, you will still receive future Dev Channel updates to rectify this issue.

Recall Features

The following concerns regarding Recall will be tackled in upcoming updates:

  • Recall can be toggled on or off in the “Turn Windows features on or off” menu. We are currently caching the Recall binaries on disk for testing purposes. A future update will entail complete removal of these binaries.
  • Users might encounter a message prompting them to “Make sure Recall is saving snapshots,” while the settings indicate that saving snapshots is activated. A simple device reboot should resolve this issue.
  • Ensure that your Microsoft 365 applications are updated to the latest version for smoother functionality.

Click to Do Functionality

Several known issues will be rectified in forthcoming updates:

  • At times, additional context is provided when employing advanced text actions powered by Phi Silica.
  • These intelligent text actions utilize Microsoft’s secure cloud environment to enhance text outcomes, with all data being automatically deleted afterwards. Local moderation strategies will be implemented in the future.
  • Occasionally, the Click to Do feature may fail to highlight content on a connected external display in extended mode.

Live Captions & Real-Time Translation

Several issues are being addressed in upcoming releases:

  • Some users might experience a crash upon first launch of live captions. If this occurs, a simple restart should erase the issue permanently.
  • When audio is playing or the microphone is active, switching languages may lead to a live captions crash. Pausing audio during language changes will allow for uninterrupted use of captions and translations.
