On September 27, 2024, Netflix announced the production of the highly anticipated film, Good News, directed by Byun Sung-hyun. This project marks his second collaboration with Netflix, following the success of Kill Boksoon (2023).
The global streaming service shared images from the table read session featuring the cast on their social media platforms. According to the post by Netflix:

This gripping film, set in the tumultuous year of 1970, revolves around a covert mission aimed at landing a hijacked aircraft. An elusive problem-solver, whose background remains a mystery, spearheads the operation alongside an Air Force First Lieutenant and a government official overseeing the mission.
Acclaimed actor Sul Kyung-gu takes on the role of the enigmatic problem-solver. This collaboration marks his fourth project with director Byun, having previously worked together on The Merciless, Kingmaker, and Kill Boksoon. Hong Kyung stars as the lieutenant, while Ryu Seung-bum portrays the government liaison.
The film promises to showcase the captivating on-screen chemistry between Sul Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryu Seung-bum.
Good News is inspired by a real-life airplane hijacking incident that occurred in the 1970s. Netflix characterizes the film as:

Director Byun is recognized for his nuanced storytelling and exploration of complex relationships in cinema. His 2017 film, The Merciless, received acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival.
He also earned the Best Director award for Kingmaker (2022) at both the Baeksang Arts Awards and the Grand Bell Awards. Good News is expected to deliver a thrilling, conflict-laden narrative and is produced in association with Star Platinum.

Sul Kyung-gu is a renowned South Korean actor with notable performances in films such as Peppermint Candy (1999), Oasis (2002), and Silmido (2003). He has received multiple Baeksang Arts Awards, including Best Actor for Hope (2013) and Kingmaker (2022). Recently, he starred in The Whirlwind (2024).
Hong Kyung made his feature film debut in Innocence (2020), which won him a Baeksang Arts Award. He is also recognized for his roles in the series Weak Hero Class 1 (2022), Revenant (2023), and Troll Factory (2024).
Ryu Seung-bum is acclaimed for his performances in films such as Die Bad (2000), Arahan (2004), and The Berlin File (2013). He was recently seen in the 2023 series Moving.
