Netflix Acquires Rights to New Romantic Book Series, Promising Even More Drama Than Bridgerton in Major Seven-Figure Agreement

Netflix has recently secured the rights to a popular romance novel series, aiming to transform its captivating storyline into a television adaptation. While the streaming service often garners the most attention for its blockbuster hits like Bridgerton, which consistently ranks as a fan favorite, it also boasts quieter yet strong performers such as Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias. Both series have cultivated a dedicated viewer base, showcasing the network’s diverse portfolio in the romance genre.

Fans of Virgin River can look forward to its seventh season, while Sweet Magnolias is set to return for its fourth season in February. These series maintain a lighter tone, often eschewing darker themes in favor of a more hopeful, grounded narrative. In contrast, Netflix is venturing into more intense territory with its latest project.

Ana Huang’s Twisted Love series is on track for a TV adaptation. The narrative revolves around Alex Volkov, a character described as having an angelic appearance but harboring a ruthless demeanor. He embarks on a quest for vengeance but becomes entangled in complex feelings for his best friend’s sister, Ava Chen. Their forbidden romance unfolds against the backdrop of Volkov’s mission to avenge a murder, adding layers of tension and drama to the storyline.

Since its initial release in 2021, the Twisted Love novels have surpassed 12 million copies sold, gaining particular popularity on TikTok, which highlights the influence of social media on literary trends.

According to Variety, Netflix has completed a seven-figure deal to adapt Huang’s novels, encompassing the first installment and its sequels. If all goes as planned, the adaptation will also include the subsequent novels: Twisted Games, Twisted Hate, and Twisted Lies.
