NCIS: Origins Episode 4 Summary – The Fate of Mildred Explained
NCIS: Origins presents a gripping investigative crime drama, serving as a spinoff of the highly acclaimed CBS series, NCIS. Set in 1991, this series centers around Agent Leroy Gibbs, who is one of the prominent figures in the original NCIS storyline.
In the fourth episode of NCIS: Origins, Agent Gibbs and his fellow NIS agents delve into the murder case of Brianna Davis while simultaneously searching for a missing girl named Mildred. This particular investigation proves to be particularly difficult for Leroy, as it continuously evokes memories of his own daughter’s tragic fate.
Fortunately, the team successfully locates Brianna’s daughter, Mildred, hidden in the woods, and identifies the contract killer responsible for the chaos. However, danger resurfaces when the hitman targets the girl again at Mary Jo’s residence. In a dramatic confrontation, Gibbs intervenes, shooting the assailant and ensuring Mildred’s safety. It is later uncovered that a local dairy company orchestrated Brianna’s murder.
The False Witness Revealed in NCIS: Origins Episode 4
The episode opens with a flashback: Leroy receiving news about the tragic cases of Shannon and Kelly while stationed in the military. The scene transitions to the current timeline where Mike Franks and his team take on the murder investigation of Brianne Davis, brutally killed at her home. She had been taking care of a young girl, Mildred, whose father was deployed.
After the murder, Mildred disappears, but a neighbor claims to have seen her abducted in a blue Ford Explorer. Following the evidence at the crime scene and the witness’s account, the investigation begins. However, it quickly becomes apparent that the main witness—a senior citizen—is fabricating his story to gain attention within the community.
Mike Franks confronts him, eventually extracting the truth about his deceit.
Agent Gibbs Rescues Mildred with Gary Gallahan’s Assistance
To aid in the search for Mildred, the NIS team calls upon the expertise of their beloved K-9 unit dog, Gary Gallahan. The dog leads the agents deep into the woods, beginning to dig as they brace themselves for potential grim discoveries. Franks advises Gibbs to hold back, concerned that witnessing a child’s remains may trigger painful memories for him.
However, luck is on their side as they locate Mildred alive; she had hidden herself after burying her backpack. With the comforting assistance of Lala and Mary Jo, Leroy skillfully collaborates with Mildred to produce a sketch of the hitman while softly singing a Whitney Houston tune.
Unfortunately, the hitman learns of Mildred’s location and launches another attack at Mary Jo’s house. Gibbs, already on-site, engages in a fierce struggle with the assailant in the basement, ultimately shooting him before any harm can befall the young girl.
Gibbs Dines at Franks’ Home in NCIS: Origins Episode 4
NCIS: Origins artfully develops the connection between Mike Franks and Leroy Gibbs. Early in this episode, Mike extends an invitation to Gibbs for dinner, explaining that his wife Tish often hosts those who stand by him, including Gary Gallahan.
After discovering that a local dairy company was behind the murder to prevent Brianna from exposing their illegal dumping practices, Gibbs attends dinner at Franks’ home, greeting Tish and sharing the space with Gary.
The episode culminates with a poignant narration by Mark Harmon:
“It was only me, until it wasn’t.”
