Major Step Forward for Windows on ARM: Adobe Launches Native Apps
Today marks a significant milestone for Windows on ARM as Adobe has announced the availability of several flagship creative applications natively optimized for ARM-powered Windows devices. The newly supported applications include Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Media Encoder.
Enhanced Performance with Native Support
Previously, in August 2024, users of Windows on ARM could only access Premiere Pro through emulation, which limited the benefits of the hardware. However, with the transition to native applications, users can now expect significantly improved performance and greater energy efficiency, particularly on devices powered by Snapdragon X Series processors.
Current Status: Beta Release
The recently launched applications are currently in beta testing. While Adobe is working diligently to enhance these tools, users should be aware of certain limitations that will persist even after the beta phase concludes.

Known Issues with After Effects
Adobe has noted several issues with After Effects in the current beta version:
- Limited format support, notably missing ProRes, ARRIRAW, SWF, and JPEG20000 in MXF, which cannot be imported or exported. Consequently, the High Quality settings default to the uncompressed QuickTime codec.
- No import support for MotionJPEG and MKV.
- No hardware-accelerated playback or export of H.264 and HEVC in MP4.
- Keylight and Mocha functionalities are currently unavailable, with a warning displayed at launch.
- The Cinema 4D renderer and associated C4D features are not yet supported.
- Third-party plugins are incompatible with the native builds and require updates for WinARM compatibility. Adobe is collaborating with many developers and will provide an SDK update soon.
Performance Tips
Adobe advises users to download the latest Adreno GPU driver to resolve issues associated with Advanced 3D support on the current GPU driver setup.
