The highly anticipated K-drama, Love in the Big City, is set for release on October 21, 2024, and will be available globally on both TVING and Viki. This series features Nam Yoon-su, who gained fame for his role in The King’s Affection, along with co-stars Kwon Hyuk, Na Hyun-woo, and Jin Ho-eun, known for their performances in All of Us Are Dead. Recently, the principal cast participated in an interview with Allure Korea, where they shared insights about the drama and other topics.
During the interview, Nam Yoon-su hinted at exciting moments and numerous kissing scenes involving himself and male cast members. He enthusiastically declared to his fans that if their K-drama achieves the top spot in global viewership ratings, he will offer free hugs to 1,000 supporters. Love in the Big City portrays the life of Go-young, a closeted gay individual, played by Nam Yoon-su. He lives with his female roommate, Mi-ae, offering a unique perspective on his navigation of identity and growth. The story unfolds through the viewpoint of Mi-ae (played by Lee Soo-kyung), a heterosexual woman.
The series will delve into Go-young’s profound challenges, particularly with his mother, who struggles to accept his sexuality and gender identity. His journey leads him on a spontaneous trip to Thailand, where he encounters various individuals and experiences love at different stages of his life, adding layers to his character development.
Consisting of eight episodes, each with an estimated run time of 50 minutes, the drama includes Kwon Hyuk, Na Hyun-woo, and Jin Ho-eun as Go-young’s romantic interests. The show is helmed by directors Heo Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Taek-yeom, and Kim Se-in.
Both the film and the anticipated drama draw inspiration from the bestselling novel by Park Sang-young, which was translated into English in 2021 by Anton Hur, known for translating BTS’ biography Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS. Park Sang-young’s work, Love in the Big City, was longlisted for the 2022 International Booker Prize.
