Another installment of Naked and Afraid season 17 premiered on Discovery Channel on Sunday, March 31. In episode 7, two fresh survivalists and dedicated viewers, Malu and Kyle, were paired together to take on a fan challenge.
Despite being strangers, they were abandoned in a Columbian jungle for 14 days with no clothes and few tools. One of the main topics of the episode has been Malu’s comment on bringing “bougie”to the wilderness.
Malu and Kyle were collaborating to construct a shelter using bamboo wood and leaves when the moment arrived. Kyle suggested they name their temporary home “Coconut Castle”, a name which Malu found “lovely”. As they adorned the shelter with natural materials, Malu praised their teamwork. She then gestured towards their campsite and commented:
“Well someone said you shouldn’t bring bougie to the jungle and I think this proves them wrong.”

Malu Beyonce, co-host of the A Naked and Afraid podcast, proudly stated that she has viewed every installment of the survivalist reality show. Taking diligent notes during each episode, she has made the show a valuable part of her income. During her on-camera introduction, the devoted fan exclaimed:
“I am Malu Beyonce and I am going to be known as the duct tape girl. To prepare for this challenge I’ve watched a lot of Naked and Afraid because I am an armchair survivalist and I look at all the things that they did wrong that I came up with a solution on how to do it right.”
Malu made sure to avoid repeating the one mistake she had made on Naked and Afraid: not drinking enough water. Prior to embarking on the 14-day challenge in the Columbian jungle, she stressed the criticality of staying hydrated. Football coach Kyle joined her on the expedition.
Prior to his arrival, Kyle had already started getting ready to face the challenges of the wilderness by walking barefoot for nearly six weeks. In a confession during episode 7, he elaborated:
“I am Kyle and by the end of this challenge, you’re gonna know me as the overcomer. In preparing for this challenge I’ve been barefoot for six weeks. Every fire that I’ve started has been with natural resources that I’ve collected. One thing I’ve learned from watching the past mistakes is don’t poop in your water source.”
Kyle also mentioned that life has served as his greatest teacher and the most valuable lesson he has gained from it is:
“Every time you get knocked down is another opportunity for you to learn and grow from it.”
Upon encountering each other in the jungle, Kyle and Malu formed an instant connection based on their shared interests and dislikes. Malu expressed her disdain for partners on the show who refuse to make sacrifices for one another. As they journeyed towards their campsite, the survivalists wasted no time in searching for resources.
In episode 7, the group in the Columbian jungle relied on catching crabs for some of their meals. Malu and Kyle faced challenges while searching for food and gathering resources, but they ultimately succeeded in completing the challenge and were successfully extracted from the forest.
The upcoming episode, titled Unbreakable, will introduce two new survivalists as the show continues. The official description for the installment reads:
“After surviving a near-fatal fall, an equestrian stunt rider attempts to endure 21 days in Colombia. But when she and her partner fail to find food, they must grapple with the harsh possibility of starvation.”
The eighth episode of Naked and Afraid season 17 is scheduled to be broadcast on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
